Has anybody discovered a rhyme or reason for each talkgroup to be chosen by the DPS? Is it random? For instance, I live in area "B." The two talkgroups that I have heard are "DPS LAW 5B" and "DPS LAW 3B." Why 5 and 3? Why not 1, 2, 4, etc.? I figured they'd use the first numbered TGs first. The only guess I have is that ISP Post 5 is in the north (so is ISP Post 6) and ISP Post 3 is in the south (Post 4 is kind of central). Is THAT why they use 5 and 3? Is there a similar thing going on in other areas?

Also, why did they decide to call it "5B?" Why not "B5?" That would make more sense -- Area B, TG 5. Seems backward.

I believe what you are observing or asking is by dispatch center then the letter denotes the patrol area. For what I have observe Law 6 is Cedar Rapids CC while B is Post 11, C is Post 12 area, D is Post 13 & 14.

I should add the old Areas A/B/C are no longer germane.
I do hear Law 5D occasionally which I believe is Post 10 from Cedar Falls CC.
