    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am ultimately looking to convert this W4 Tib to use a W3 HHCH however atm i cant even figure out how to get it to power on.

I have tried jumping 20->22
Ignition has 12v
All grounds are on the same common

I can find squat for info on the W4 Tib.

I have two radios with the same Tibs same issue on both...
What am i missing? I really hope I'm not sitting on two bricks.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Connecting J5-20 with J5-22 on the front of the TIB should work. Check that there is A+ present on J5-20 referenced to ground.
Make note that there's an internal 5-amp fuse that may be blown if you're unable to measure A+ on J5-20 with normal power applied
to the brick.

Additionally, be sure you have Emergency on J2-15 of the 26-Pin Auxiliary Connector strapped to ground. Usually, there will be a
jumper or a strap between J2-14 and J2-15. Supply voltage on the Ignition Sense J2-25 may be required that depends upon how
the radio was last programmed.

Here is a related question. I have a portable repeater using a pair of XTL1500s. I also have a couple of XTL2500 bricks laying around. Is it possible to have an XTL2500 power up without a head and function as a repeater receiver or transmitter on a single programmed frequency controlled through the rear connector as my current XTL1500s?

I am measuring -0.75v to ground from J5-20 / A+, what is the expected voltage there?

Update. I have found the issue and got the unit to power on. There was a power issue that was my fault.
I found that 20 J5 and 20 J6 || 22 J5 and 22 J6 are 0 ohms so jumping 20->22 on J6 ( the second DB-25 ) while plugging in the W3 head on J5 bright the device to life.

Thank you for the help and the confirmation on the jumper wires.

For anyone trying to find info on wiring a W3 head to a W4 TIB: jump 20->22 on the second ( right most ) DB-25 port and plug in the W3 head to J5 the first DB-25.
In my case the rear ACC ignition cable / pin did not affect power on.

Any of the XTL models having a "W" Series TIB can be powered up to run headless y strapping J5-20 to J5-22. All else applies to normal use
of the 26-Pin Auxiliary Connector. An XTL2500 expects and M5 CH and would have to be flashed as an XTL5000 and configured for use with
a W9 CH for example before installing a "W" Series TIB.

I am ashamed to admit that i trusted the coloration on the wire i found and had connected the power reverse of expected polarity.
My power supply prevented operation upon short detection so luckily my brick isnt a brick.
