If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi!

First of all I have to say that ive searched the forum for answer to this question so if you know its on the forum, please dont kill me ;)

My problem is that in CE64 (programming software for VX410\420) i can choose comport 1-20.
Ive tried them all and the only port that halfway gives me a response is comport 3.

The thing is it asks me to turn my radio off and on in order to start Download \ Upload and then the progressbar wont start working,

The cable i have is a USB cable and im not sure how i asign or find out what comport the USB port is connected to. Ive tried devicemanager but no luck.

any1 have any idea on how I can solve this?

Best regards from Norway!

Ps. under the battery it says VX-417-4-5 and im running Windows7 64bit.

I have had numerous problems using USB/232 cables (which is what your cable is) on Win7/64, the only cables that will work for me are the actual Vertex cables, the aftermarket ebay cables will not work for me.

My only suggestion would be to go to the Prolific website (they make the chip and driver in your cable) and try downloading the 64bit driver and replace your current driver.

In the end I just use my crappy tired old XP laptop now for programming radios and it always works.

All Vertex portable radio have the same programing setup. Plug cable in, turn radio on, open program, select read/write radio and it will tell you to turn radio off/on. this is normal.

As for the cable, com port, after you get the 64bit driver for proflic, install and then connect your cable. open device manager, click on comports, and see what com port is showing for that cable.

I have had ports showing as high as 40, and the software says it will do up in the range, but I have found that if you set your comport at 10 or less the software and radios like it better.

If you need to change the comport, right click on the device, then go to properties, select advance, then select the port number you wish.
