I've noticed that occasionally, When scanning the CSP system, After a transmission, It will stay on the voice channel and nothing but very loud static will come across.

Are there any settings on my scanner (Uniden BCD396T) that I might be able to change to alleviate this issue?

Might be encryption, i know that the State Attorney and T.N.T (tactical narcotics taskforce) use encryption,
I also heard a rumor of CSP moving to 700mhz trunked, and i also heard the rumor of wide spread encryption over the new system

NO, Absolutely not. What is occasionally happening is that it'll comeplete a transmission, and then it will be a ton of static on the same talkgroup.

Take a listen to my feed and you might happen to catch an example of what I'm talking about.

I would guess it is interference on a frequency that is preventing the end message code from being heard by the scanner. It was a huge problem on one of the old Troop H/F Prime Site. When that happened, it would hang up on a certain frequency at the end of a conversation. If it seems to be happening across all the freqs, try looking for local interference.

No, It's usually just on the 867.2625 Voice channel in the Troop C/K Zone.

Could a firmware update possibly fix this? I got my 396 in august of 07, and haven't once update the firmware. I don't really know where to get the firmware update. Any advice on that?

Maybe bump up the squelch control a bit? Or perhaps turning on the Attenuator. There is a new Firmware update available for that scanner I believe.

I have no idea how to get the firmware, where to get it, how to install it, Or anything related to anything to do with firmware.

I have however increased the squelch, have also adjusted the hold time, the channel delay time, and even gone so far as to take out all the frequencies in the 868.9125 Zone (It's in its own dynamic group) and set it to CC only mode, and done every combination of these things, All to no F****N avail, Although, I will go try the attenuator and see what it does.

I'm really frustrated, Because I know this would be a great feed, IF I ever get it working.

Anyways, I'll try the attenuator and report back here in a while as to what happens. Feel free to listen in and let me know how it sounds on the other end.

If you have any ideas, Send me a message on AIM. Same screen name as here.

There are some threads for installing the firmware updates. Uniden has you jump through some odd hoops for registering the scanner, finding the firmware, etc. Not difficult, just frustrating sometimes. You will eventually have to do it to support rebanded systems.

Here are the list of improvements (scroll down):

Here is where you start the registration (can be found on the above link as well):

Thanks for all the help. I seem to have solved the issues, Simply by turning on the attenuator on the system where I have just the 868.9125 cc in there running on cc only mode, I have that and the 868.3375 cc programmed in seperate systems on my 396, and the 9125 cc system was the only one giving me trouble. I live in an area where I can pick up both of those fairly well, Hence the reason those are the only ones provided in my feed.

this happens every winter. the unknown phenomonen mysteriously comes and goes on random channels. usually if u flip some settings like ie end detect is on turn off or bit code..etc it usually fixes it. it will go away in the summer
