i had a friend drop me off a whistler ws1040 to re-program for a guy he knows and was having an issue not picking up anything. did a factory reset on it deleting everything and did a reprogram to it.

I get NOTHING............my other scanners pick up perfect (have 3........trx2, pro106 and a uniden bct8) the ws1040 has everything for my county in it. opened it up and everything has nothing broken in it and all wires have no issues, even did 3 different antennas and nada.

WHAT THE HECK is wrong with it?????????? him and i are stumped beyond measures. as far as i know the scanner was bought brand new.

If the guy your friend knows lives in your area, you can clone your 106 to his 1040. The PRO-106 and WS1040 have a common problem. If any stress is put on the antenna, it can break the solder connection from the antenna connector to the circuit board. Try receiving NOAA weather. No programming required. Does the scanner show the scan lists on the display? If not, what is on the display?

scanner shows the scanlists amd when i press the WX button all it does is just scans the frequencies with no stops or broadcasts of the weather.

no breaks to the insides where the scanner attaches inside either. it does the main whistler screen that all whistler scanners do, beeps and then goes to scanlists (even though just 1 is active cause only scanlist 1 is programmed for chemung county

What happens if you open the squelch while scanning weather? Do you hear noise? If not, try plugging in an earpiece or headphones. Check if the guy keyed up a transmitter close to the radio. He may have blown the RF amp.

did that and just the squelch static noise happens with no voice.

one thing i noticed with this and my 106 is my 106 will have the little lines on top like it kinda is picking up something, and the 1040 has nothing.

all the weather frequencies that are pre-programmed in the scanner dont work.

its almost like it senses that no antenna is installed and there is. i even went to the store and got new energizer batteries for it, along with doing a 3rd factory reset and re-program it and still get nothing.

guess he now has a scanner paperweight lol. shows scanning the bank (#1) too.

There is a good chance of the antenna connection being bad. I also seem to remember several instances of an RF module going bad. While set to the local NOAA Weather frequency, push in on the antenna connector to see if it starts receiving.

If the antenna connection is not broken, it sounds like it is time for a trip to the shop. One other thing to check. Hold in the 3 button while turning on the scanner to check for the firmware version. Let me know what it is.

Check to see if you have accidentally turned on the attenuator, the global attenuator letters GA appears on the display.
Press FUNC, then right after, press ATT buttons.

If you have another antenna, try that.

Take a qtip with isopropyl alcohol and remove the antenna on the radio and swab the antenna all around the silver ground connector & where the antenna connects. * If you try this, DON’T apply pressure to the connector as you don’t want to spread the contacts apart !
It did help a lot for me and several others, the connectors, mainly the silver ground contacts can get quite dirty and limit the reception.

Make sure if you have pushed the antenna in and give it a twist to lock in, otherwise the antenna is not connected to the radio.

So i did your idea/recommendation and still nothing.

Im gonna attempt to take apart again and see if the antenna area still has the little metal piece attached to the antenna area, i had a scanner a long time ago where that metal piece broke off
