After NIFC Tac 4 was eliminated about 10-12 years ago, NIFC kept the 6 tac frequencies labeled 1-3 and 5-7 without just moving 5-7 up to 4-6. Maybe they were thinking they could get a replacement, a difficult task they were not successful at. Difficult because they would need nationwide exclusive use authorization. Even though the number of frequencies doubled due to narrow banding in, let's see, I think 2005, they were unable to come up with the new Tac 4. So the result of the renaming is:

Tac 1 168.0500
Tac 2 168.2000
Tac 3 168.6000
Tac 4 166.7250
Tac 5 166.7750
Tac 6 168.2500

Since NIFC also lost authorization for Command 7 this fits nicely into having 6 tacs and 6 commands. However, NIFC has left Command 7 empty and has kept the numbering of the NIFOG repeaters as Command 1-6 and Commands 8-12 for some reason. These are not NIFOG numbers so they could easily number the commands "1-11" now. Maybe in the future as finding a new nationwide repeater pair seems more than unlikely.

The RR Database has already been updated to reflect this.
