Its been a while since I lurked on here. I believe it was last christmas that I last visited. Anyway, has there been any breakthroughs on the provoice front? Any new info on when/if there is a plan for a provoice capable scanner? Excuse me if this has already got a thread, like I said im a little out of the loop as far as recent news goes. Thanks for any info.

No Pro-Voice, not now, not so far, who knows if ever..

The link to the thread had no info, just beating the same dead horse about Pro-Voice.

If, if only, could, would, should, and maybe are not breakthroughs in technology.

Some guy here in Georgia claimed he could. He never could back up his claim. Then folks showed his quotes with inconsistencies. His other posts lacked accuracy to on other topics.

Hearing Pro-Voice in conventional mode? Pro-Voice is digital. I am not aware of anything from anywhere that can handle in any shape, form, or fashion, any digital Pro-Voice transmission in any mode, conventional or otherwise.

I'm rather tired of the "if" game some choose to play with this topic. If I had wings I could fly.

Pro-Voice is a proprietary protocol of M/A Comm Division of Tyco. Any other device using that protocol would be in violation of patents and/or copyrights without written consent of M/A Comm. Try making your own version of "Word for M'soft Office" and see how long it would take Mr. Gates to hunt you down like a dog. Deservedly so.......

Until someone finds a way to do so with credible witnesses, I hope folks will not claim they heard something from someone's friend of a friend's third cousin once removed.

Thanks,
Julian

Sorry, here's the link from within the thread http://radioreference.com/forums/sh...10&postcount=19 Here is the entry in the main thread http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8408&page=1&pp=20

To summarize what happened, Thayne's daughter is (was?) dating a "computer geek" that created a DSP upgrade for the PRO-96 that allowed ProVoice to be demodulated. Unfortunately, since the PRO-96 does not pass through ProVoice digital talkgroups, you can not listen to them in trunked mode, only conventional scanning mode (non-trunked) or by manually listening to one frequency. The DSP upgrade that allowed ProVoice was very primitive - it did not allow APCO-25 demodulation to work.

Hearing Pro-Voice in conventional mode? Pro-Voice is digital.

I meant non-trunked mode.

No one disagrees with that statement. Unfortunately that means that we will never see an ProVoice capable scanner until either MA-COM finds a way to make money off it or someone develops a third party DSP upgrade that will support it. Personally, I see the latter happening well before the former.

Whoever develops it will undoubtably be sued, provided they can be found. Any DSP upgrade will spread like wildfire over the internet until MA-COM finds a way to stop it - if they can.

BTW, there already is an open source software package that is similar to MS Office, its called Open Office, developed by Sun Microsystems.

Until someone finds a way to do so with credible witnesses, I hope folks will not claim they heard something from someone's friend of a friend's third cousin once removed.

Thayne saw it with his own eyes. Do I believe him? After speaking with him, he has not given me any reason to not believe him. In theory, the method he described is possible.

If I was going to violate patents and/or copywrights, I would definately not want witnesses around...... :) :)

Warren,

Thanks for the note back. Thayne saw what he saw. Maybe he can talk his daughter into going out with the guy a few more times..........LOL. :)
