I live in Jackson, MS. Having just bought a Pro-97 from ebay, I was wondering what will be available to listen to. Does the Hinds SO going digital p25 include all JPD/JFD radio traffic? I stumbled on a post saying this after the purchase. Did I just waste my money? Is the next best scanner $300 more(the Pro-96)? Right now I have a Pro-82 and can hear what I believe to be Brandon PD. The last time I had a scanner was when I was a volunteer fireman in '92. Things have changed quite a bit.

Is there a Central MS scanning FAQ?

So far I have donated to the site to get the WIN97 import. Waiting on the Paypal to process because its still saying I have not donated.

Thanks,
Jon

Hinds SO, seems to be all p-25. I have rarely heard a little analog on that system, but it wasn't SO. Clinton PD, Utica, Edwards, and I think Terry are also on this system. Ridgeland pd has it's own p-25 system, having tossed out the vhf gear about 3months ago. Brandon PD is still analog vhf 155.55.

The city of Jackson is still EDACS convential, so your pro-97 is just fine. Rankin county is Moto Type II, as is the city of madison. So you have plenty to listen too.

To my knowledge we have a MS state scanning forum, but no central ms sub forum. Feel free to PM me for more info about scanning in our area.

thanks

Thats good news about the pro-97.

Sure would have liked to go dumpster diving in Ridgeland 3 months ago. ; P I am sure they auctioned off their old equipment.

I live close to the Pearl river so I can hear Jackson international airport and brandon pd pretty well.

Last Sunday was pretty interesting listening. Heard a lot of tornado sightings and 10-50's.

Thanks again for the info...

Bad Weather Frequency

The skywarn net is usually up during severe weather events, and last weekend announced probably over 200 tornado warnings, combined with many spotter reports (both citizen and public safety.)

146.94 mhz

JXN Airport seems to put out fine signals throughout much of the metro.

Oh one more thing, depending on your antenna setup, you may be able to receive the Simpson County LTR, VHF system. However, you won't be able to monitor Natchez trace w/out P-25, they've changed VHF freqs, and gone digital, but thankfully in the clear.

Also note: The JAN EDACS TRS for the airport also has TG's for simulcasting of the Tower, and Ground broadcasts for both the JAN, and Hawkins airports. The airport (JAN) TRSA has excellent coverage into downtown Jackson, and is pretty busy. You can also hear the MDOC EDACS TRS from downtown Jackson, though a few of the TG's for the Fugitive Teams are encrypted using AEGIS.

Oh and you can help us figure the rest of the LCN's for the Simpson LTR TRS with that 97!
And if anyone hears whether Jacktown is officially going to the HCSO system please update us so we stay informed..

Jackson, MS Scanning

It has been my experience that the best way I have been able to monitor Jackson PD and Fire is I bought several EDACS 800 MHz, had them programmed and I'm good to go. They are portable units and have had JPD ask how I got "one of our radios". I have four (4) of them already programmed, the same kind of radios they carry...
