I have seen information, most recently I believe, in the Asbury Park Press (I think) that Jackson Twp. PD is going to go to a digital encrypted system. There are problems with communications between the dispatchers and the units in some parts of the township, dead spots, if you will, where comms are poor or almost nil. Digital will eliminate this problem. As for encryption, I don't know if it will be full time or just when they don't want us to hear what they're saying. There is no scanner on the market today that can translate and receive encryption. She can get them right now but I haven't seen a timeline for the digital system, so I don't know how much longer she will be able to.
I am assuming the FD and EMS will remain analog. The FD is dispatched on a conventional frequency, but the fireground operations are on an LTR trunked system, which the Pro 95 cannot receive, BUT the system CAN BE MONITORED in the CONVENTIONAL mode, so there's no problem receiving that. EMS is VHF high, conventional also, so she could hear them also.
Tough decision to make, I know, with the uncertanties.
