• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Below are my findings after monitoring the Jackson Township, Ocean County, NJ, UHF Motorola trunk radio system for a few weeks.

As has been noted many times before, the police utilize full-time use of encryption when operating on their talkgroups.

I have found 3 talkgroups that are routinely used by the police.

There are 2 talkgroups used frequently by public works, and a third that is also used by them, but less frequently.

There is a single talkgroup that is active each day and sounds like it could be buses, or some type of transit, or transportation, operation. This talkgroup is very busy with chatter each morning from about 8-9 AM, and then very limited traffic during the remainder of the day.

There are 5 talkgroups that have encrypted comms on them, and I am assuming that they are police related, but that is only an assumption. Some of the radio ID's that have been seen operating on these talkgroups, have only appeared on them. My guess is that they could be used for special operations, detectives, or some similar use by radios that are not used routinely for police patrol activities, but that is just a guess.

There are also 8 talkgroups that have occasional traffic on them, but I have not been able to determine who the users may be.

Lastly, there are 9 talkgroups that have seen radio affiliations with them, but have not logged any actual communications traffic.

Here are the results. Edits/corrections/updates would be most appreciated!!

1392 is probably DPW Channel 3.

656 is "EMS Operations 1". 688 is probably "EMS Operations 2".

1776 isn't specifically designated as "JACKSON EMS F-2", but it might be Channel 2 in their radios (I doubt it, though). It is a township-wide talkgroup called "911". I've heard the PD and EMS using it.

16 appears to be a ATG for the entire TRS.
