I heard that Fire/Rescue is not encrypted. Can't remember who said it or where I was it but I swear I remember hearing this.

*edit*

I guess the better question is what is encrypted on the system? Is it just the Sheriff's Office?

I ask this beacuse I am ready to buy a digital scanner.

I did not know that. See its possible to learn something new every day. I am normaly a very cabable type person able to figure this stuff out. In this case I was stumped.

Thanks for unstumping me.

To provide help with this part, don't try to scan this system with a BC250/785/296/796 in ID SEARCH mode, you'll quickly run out of L/Out slots. But you certainly can scan the Fire/EMS in ID SCAN mode. Last October I switched to the Jax bank as I entered Florida on I-95 and had the L/Out filled before reaching KJAX exit. My Pro-96 apparently ignored the encryption, so was able to continue scanning open.

I have no desire to listen to JAX police. But I do want to listen to Fire Rescue.

I think I'll buy the BCD396 and use the Tone out and go from there.

As long as I know that I am not wating my money on a scanner that is worthless in my area I am ok.

Thanks guys sorry for the stupid question.

Hello all,
I live in St Johns Co. I hear Jax F/R sometimes loud and clear. The JSO is encrypted! I only have Jax F/R program. We can not hear FHP. I can hear the Bunnell tower low band vhf.

Some days I can hear Jax F/R. I can not hear CCSO at all or the COFD just the 154.205 I can hear loud and clear. I was wondering when Flagler and Putnam is going to 800. I hear St Johns may go to it also.
I do not listen to other stuff from Jax I have the Jax F/R scan and it is closed mode.

If you have the Clay County 800MHz frequencies in your scanner, all depending on where you live at in St. John's county you should be able to hear the 800MHz system loud and clear. Also try a 9 inch multiband antenna from radio shack that will greatly improve reception. It did on mine. I even hear Clay County (loud and clear) all the way from Gainesville and Palatka.

I live in the city limits of St Augustine. I have my antenna on the second floor. I am not able to pick up clay co at all. I can pick up putnam co good. Sometimes Flagler co comes in good at night is clear or morning just the sun is right. I have pro 2067 going 24/7 just for st johns-st aug for now. I have my pro 96 running on jax f/r when I am not working. I have been listening to scanners since 1991.

That explains it then you live in the city of St. Augustine. I usually will hear clay county 800 until we get to the Outlet Mall on SR16 at I95. Then it goes completely dead. I know that St. Johns will be going to Statewide 800 (FHP only) don't know when. Putnam County is already on statewide FHP 800. Haven't heard when either of these agencies are going to an 800 system or even if they have plans on switching to an 800 system.
