• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hoping someone can shed some light here... I picked up a Jag & charger, but it didn't come with a battery. Bought a battery online (which arrived today) but when I drop it in the charger... nothing. The charger is a BML 161 59/1 Universal Charger with a Jag sleeve in it. Battery is a BKB 191 210 NiMH. Is it possible that this charger will only do NiCD and not NiMH?

Actually.... the more I read, the more it looks like this is the case. Geez I can buy a new Tri-Chemistry charger cheaper than a NiCD battery pack.

I have a OEM charger (NiCd/NiMh) .... from Macom, and it is the biggest piece of junk I have ever seen. It will not work with my NiCd or NiMh batteries. So .. I just use my Maha charger to charge my batteries. So ... I would be careful which charger and batteries you get as I have had poor success from the OEM chargers.

I know I am not the only one having problems .. as one of my friends has problems with his OEM charger too.

Oh .. I was going to tell you can tell if it is a NiCd charger only .. or NiCd / NiMh.

If the cord that goes to the charger from the wall has 3 prongs / connections (like what you would see on a pc) on the charger... it is NiCd. If it has 2 (smaller plug) it is NiCd / NiMh.

How are you charging with your Maha charger? (I've got one of those as well). Good info on checking the cord type.. This charger does indeed have the 3 pronged connection. I ended up buying a 3rd party tri-chemistry charger, so hopefully that will do the trick.

So that would mean you have a NiCd charger .. and won't charge your NiMh as you have already seen.

Re the Maha charger ... I am using the MH-C777PLUS-II. It works very well with battery packs, but I see that it may be a discontinued item.

I think that you made a good choice by going with the 3rd party charger.
