• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok, so I work in a newsroom and we love using Jaguars as scanners because of their reception, durability, and audio quality.

I recently bought a pair on Ebay (I know, I know) and when I finally received the batteries that I bought separately, I turned them on, and I immediately got this message:

DISABLED
NO PERS

Obviously, this means "No Personality". I wasn't too surprised. I figured the memory was cleared out. So I tried to program it with ProGrammer, but no luck. I think I was able to make some progress with the Radio Maintenance appication, but only a little. I can't get it to Recover or re-initialize, which might help.

Does this message mean it was basically disabled remotely by the previous radio system admin, and is therefore unusable or unprogrammable by anyone else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sitting on two bricks here.

Might have been last programmed with RPM or Programmer R20 that requires a serial key.

There is a section someplace here that goes into detail on how to revert from RPM back down to Programer R18 the last verson to not require a serial key

And when you say sitting on 2 bricks.. as long as they arnt white and warped tightly I think these should be able to recover

More than likely when removed from service by whomever had them last they programmed a fake system named disabled and fake conventional freq named no pers. we do something similar and it is a pretty common practice when removing radios from a system. As stated it is likely done with the current version of programmer available when try were surplused (R20).

I think all of you guys are correct.

I was able to contact a guy with RPM and take him my radios. He immediately saw that there was a code in the 60s, not the 30s, and knew it was done with RPM, which makes my older version of Programmer unusable.

I sent him Radioman's link so he could see it, but if he can upload the personality I have for the Jaguar, I'll be happy, no "backdating" needed.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I think I'm just about out of the woods. :)
