To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Jaguar P7100IP

Trying to read the radio and getting some issues
I have 2 different cables. One for the LPE/Jaguar that reads my 700P's fine and im sure works with the P7100 aswell.. And i also have a cable specifically for the P7100

When i put the radio in program mode. Holding the PTT and both side buttons the screen goes blank as it should. In programmer i have the correct com port and radio setting.
Read the radio and i get
Radio not in program mode and/or not initialized. Reconnect Radio

On the screen on the P7100IP after i get this msg in programmer it shows PROGRAM Self Test

Any idea what the cause of this is? The Revision menu is dissabled but im rather sure it was programmed with R18 or older.

Iv tried to make my own pers file and load that in and get the same error.
I read someplace i need to update the radio code to a newer one. It fixes something with a pin needing + power to a pin that the rib box provides and the ribless cables do not and that is the issue?

Any one know what the problem is here? Or could it be i just need to upgrade the radio file to fix the issue

The +12 issue was mainly on the MRK line as it didn't have a way to generate the +12 needed to physically erase/write to the flash.

A P7100 that immediately goes to "Radio not in program mode" is usually due to either an interface issue or the radio itself has a UDC problem. Try reading the tracking data out into RadioMaint and see what the Radio Info page shows. It will tell you all the vitals of the radio and wont care what version radio code it has inside.

If that doesn't show anything, and you know the cable works on other radios you may just have a damaged UDC connector that isn't letting one or some of the pins connect.

It seems to communicate with Programmer and RPM but wont let me read/write anything
If i try to read/write the screen on the P7100Ip shows

PROGRAM
SELF TEST

then thats it. The radio maint does the same thing. I get this one the screen and the error box saying the radio isnt connected/initilazed on the screen

Contacts all look fine n golden. My friend has a cable coming this week but i think its the same as one of the ones i already have. We are stumped as to what the cause could be

Try swapping front covers/housings with another radio if you have one available. Only one contact has to go bad for a problem like yours to crop up. I've seen it, and fixed it by replacing the cover.

Going from memory, there are two pieces of elastomeric rubber between the keypad/display board and the housing. If these are dirty or missing, your UDC might not work. I would take the elastomeric rubbers out, clean them up and see if this helps.

You could also try re-seating the keyboard/display board onto the main board. If some dirt gets in here, then your UDC might not work as well.

Does a speaker mic work on this unit?

Cheers,
SD.

Ill give that a shot.
My programming cables do work. Had a chance to test it on another P7100 today and they both work.

Speaker mic does work yes. Little hiss from it but does TX and RX thru it

Sorry for the delay, you CAN swap a P7100 board into a 700p case most times. There are some revisions of boards that use an extra large shield over the VCO that cause it to not fit. That may be an option to verify if the UDC is bad. What it sounds like to me is the pin that receives data from the computer is working, but the TX line back to the PC is faulty. Otherwise you wouldn't get the POST message on the screen at all.

The 700 and 7100 frames are different. I seem to remember that you can put one board in the other, without modifications, but going the other way, you'd have to file off part of the frame to make it fit.
I think that involves filing off a circular boss on the 700 frame.

I had one P7100 that wouldn't read (or was very VERY fussy about reading) when put into programming mode using the 3 button method. However if I put the radio into programming mode by turning it on while holding down PTT it seems to read/write just great... If your radio has recent firmware in it, give that a try... that method was added a few years back to make it easier on the fingers.

My VHF P7100 get can fussy when it comes to programming. I just keep re-trying and eventually it goes. Sometimes I just hold down the PTT and the button above and the screen will say "Program" verus holding all three down buttons for program mode.
