January 2017 LW NDB loggings

Overall, the band was not as good here in January as it was last autumn (which was spectacular). In 13 listening sessions during the month, only managed to log 10 new ones for me from my Michigan QTH.

Locally, 332 PH Port Huron Michigan was last heard on New Years Day and have not heard it since. This NDB was off the air much of last summer but returned in the autumn but is now silent again.


The band was noisy here most of January but conditions seemed to improve late in the month. A 90 minute listening session on 1-28-17 1000-1130Z resulted in reception of 97 beacons including:

FIS 332 Key West has been heard here several times recently now that the local Port Huron beacon PH occuping the same freq is off the air again. FIS sometimes even covers QT Thunder Bay Ontario also on the same freq. There have been times when all three stations were heard simultaneously... strange what propagation can do.
