Saw on the news this AM how they're possibly going to increase premiums on Atlanta dwellers because the fire dept. communications and 911(among other things) suck.

Atlanta, the new detroit. :(

What station did you see this on? Nothing wrong with the communications (the new DTRS). Atlanta/Fulton County 911 - you get what you pay for! 2/3's of the dispatchers barely can speak clear English, the other 1/3 is sleeping on the job.

I think what you may have been hearing is that the Fire rating is going down due to the inept politicians and their closing of fire houses (note you will NEVER see a fire house closed in the area of the Mayor or any of her constituates).

They specifically mentioned communications. It was on fox5.

Yes, they were talking about insurance premiums going up because of the firehouses closing.

Mayor Surely(screwing it up) Franklin has got to go.

Why Pachanga22! I could have sworn that I read on another thread that you live outside I-285. That being the case, you won't get the chance to vote Surely out of office. I saw a bumper sticker one time that applies to this situation - "Since I gave Up Hope, I Feel Much Better"

let's see...we just built a brand spanking new 911 center- still have 38 vacancies for calltakers and dispatchers....

we have a brand new PDHQ....not open yet-...still tons of unfilled PDO positions.....

we have a brand spanking new 800MHz DTRS and no one on the other end to answer those calls that never get dispatched because (see above) no one to answer 911 and take them and no one to put them out...

yep, nothing to see here...other than typical C O A stupidity and it goes much further than old Shirley the reformed hoe/born again with her dope peddling son.

Afd?

Which AFD stations have closed? I remember many years ago they closed down 11 and moved that company to 15. Weren't they supposed to build a new 11 at Atlantic Station?
They also closed 39 near Chastain Park years ago but Fulton County kept a company there for a long time to run up Roswell Road into Sandy Springs.
Thanks, from a former metro resident.

Lets all use a little restraint and caution about personal slander on here. It's not the place for it.

That's right! We can't help it if her ex-husband got all those lucrative jobs at Hartsfield and in now under indictment (or is he in jail?). Let alone Surley spent $171k in the past 5 years fighting the claims of 5 police officers imcapacitated in the line of duty. And you wonder why Sgt. Kreher said he wanted to hit her in the head with a baseball bat!

Well,

7' and 23's are Blacked out and shut down. SQD 4 is Blacked out but if needed they put Eng 6 out, and send the Sqd. (assuming Eng 6 is there to be put out.) Eng 39 is no more, It's Quint 4 on both sides of the border w/Sandy Springs as is now Eng 27. First to tone get's the company.

Brown outs are on a daily basis and can range from no companies, to multiple engs & ladders. Today (6-11-09) it was two Engs & two Ldrs.

-------------------------------------------------------

PS: New Station 11 is under construction, and someone had photos of a new Ldr 11 a few weeks ago still at the factory.

i live and volunteer in a town with 300 year round residents and a fire department budget of $400,000 per year. our iso rating is a 4 with a purely volunteer fire department. atlanta and its politicos are so painfully inept at their job...

oh...

That's pathetic, the brown out and black outs of the companies!
So, what if there is a major incident in the subway line, high rise or air crash? No squad? Would DeKalb and Fulton provide Mutual aid or is the city SOL?

Hmmm. Mutual Aid! What a wonderful idea. Too bad each jurisdiction thinks they can handle it all by theirselves. Wait, don't we have that GEWIZ, AUASI or whatever it is so they can all communicate with each other? No, wait. No one but Cobb has those frequencies in their radios. Oh well, good idea, though.
