I should know this but does JeffCo use SLATER TG's or do they switch to VHF ops for on scene operations. I am in JeffCo for a while but don't hear anything on the ops channels mentioned. Just curious.

Sorry. I am not sure if they use Ops channels or interops channels. The database is not specific and/or needs to be cleaned up. Again. Sorry.

Well I guess I wasted all your time. I finally heard fire operations on Ops 7 & 8. Even though I am in JeffCo right now for a while it sounds like the volume is kinda low on the ops channels and a little hard to hear. At least I hear them now. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Just have to give some of us a chance to reply :). Obviously you figured out they do use them, just not as active as other counties. What I’m curious about is if any of the smaller or less funded departments down that way go to a vhf fireground ever?

I was having a few hours in JeffCo and was confused as to what I wasn't hearing. But after a while things kind of fell into place. I was just giving updates as they happened. I was not being antsy, I think. But it seems they use their ops channels differently??? And the radio traffic seems quiet and subdued. Just an opinion.

Every county uses ops channels slightly differently, from listening online I've found that the ops channels are usually only for major incidents (fires, major accidents, etc). Ops 7 and 8 are grouped together sometimes on incidents that require multiple ops channels, same for ops 14 and 15. Ops 9-13 are used less often and are more for special events such as SAR, hazmat, training, or PR. Responses for all calls have a main response channel, JeffCo 1, 2, or 3. JeffCo 3 is specifically used for calls that departments not on SLATER are also responding to (Washington, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, or certain Franklin County units).

Not sure why the audio is lower for them, but it's pretty typical for ops channels to have lower audio since it only needs to be heard by units on scene. I'm not sure if and how the tower configuration/power output is different for ops channels or response channels, but the feed on broadcastify compensates by making the dispatch/response channels deafening (Lord help anyone listening to it with headphones when tones drop...)

Thanks for the info. I 'think' JeffCo uses the regular SLATER for their ops channels as I can hear them pretty far away. If they were using simplex that signal would not travel very far, which is a good thing for close operations. I just happened to think the ops transmissions I have heard on JeffCo SLATER seems quiet. Maybe I'm weird.
