Was in the area for a little while and caught the alabama national guard on 163.5625 C85.4 SIMPLEX, and an unknown on 165.1625 repeater no tone possibly customs, can anyone identify this one and are there any other fed/military freqs in use in the area?

Is there any of the "Fed Stuff" that you feel comfortable listing? I'm usually in the DC area and hear nonstop fed traffic, mostly in the open, I was suprised at the lack of activity while I was in your area.

Feds use Nextel a lot here and DES encryption. Sometimes DEA is in the clear on Ch. 3 simplex.

I have 163.4875 as Air National Guard Security 1, 163.5875 ANG Fire, 164.100 ANG Security 2 (encrypted) and 165.1625 as ANG Medical here in the Birmingham area.

I have heard the same traffic on both frequencies and both seem to belong to the Army National Guard OCS that is on the former Fort McClellan. The 165.1625 freq sounds more like training ops at Pelham Range. Just came across the 163.5625 freq last night and it sounds more like the OCS school, which is all simplex. See if you can also monitor 150.500, which seems to be the same ops. Hope this was of some kind of help. Thanks.
