I am hearing quite a bit of testing on Jefferson County's system. Anybody know what's up?
I am also hearing some Birmingham police activity there when I run it in open mode.

Well

I noticed a control channel that I used on this side of town didn't work the other night when I tried to reach you, Bob. I disabled it in the bank I use for JeffCo. The radio worked fine after that. I have been just listing to the Bessemer side, so I will open my radio up to catch everything. I will try to see what I can hear. I will be working on the Cullman City Water SCADA system most of this week. I keep my scanner with me in the truck.

Yeah. It's odd. 857.23750 shows in the database as one of the control channels. But I am getting a control channel as 856.23750. I don't know. I'm getting nothing on county tonight, nor am I getting it on my Uniden desktop. I am locking out that first channel.

I seem to be getting traffic after locking out 856.23750. When I was running the county set-up "open" today I was hearing Birmingham PD traffic calls, some homicide chatter and radio checks. Very strange.

I agree, 856.2375 should not be included in trunk mode freqs now. It causes my radio to lock in on talk group 00336 and stay there with occasional data noise as the only audio.

On my Pro 95, in bank 1 I used all the frequencies to set up trunking in that bank for JeffCo. In bank 2, I included only the control channels mixed in with conventional freqs. Bank 2 would trunk fine, but bank 1 locked up on tg 00336 when in open mode, with no traffic in closed mode. This change occurred in the last few days.

Conclusion... changes must have been made in freq 856.2375, since trunking works fine without it. Sounds like maybe MDT's use that freq now????.

Good listening,
Ed

jefferson county

hello gain i have been running in "open" mode all night i seem to be geting every thing but no birmingham pd stuff however getting numerous data hits on all frequencies do not know if its my radio or what right know the freq of 859.7375 appears to be an open key very strange makes me scratch and pull what little hair i have left out, the 859.7375 is weird kinda dont wont to lock it out might miss something right know kinda of quiet in the county

if they are using the trunked systen for the mdt data are we going to have to put up with that in the "open" mode because there would be no way to select a freq dedicated to data right

reason why is that all i have is a conventional radio at this time i am going to wait for the rebanding to go into effect before i buy anything more.

another thing here is also that birmingham fire and rescue will be instaling mdt's in the fire and rescue response vehicles, right know the ants appear to be uhf mag mounts installed on bat.command vehicles, this is getting very confusing oh well i guess time to take a goodys pm and try to get some sleep

all units be advised this subject is extermely confused and dazed
stay tuned to this station for frequent updates

When we talk about open mode, we are referring to scanning all talk groups as opposed to listening to only those in a programmed scan list. This is different from scanning the frequencies in a trunked system in conventional mode.

If the 856.2375 freq is left off under current conditions, the trunktracker does fine in my experience. Try locking that freq out in conventional mode and see if some of the data and mdt noise ceases.

We talked to some officials in the Jeffco Sheriff's office today. They are converting to digital, doing many cars at a time. Apparently 40 this week. It is correct that we are hearing Birmingham calls on their band when we unlock that first frequency. That is the capability they will us for the county to hear selected Birmingham calls and to talk car-to-car, we were told. I was listening to the radio maintenance talk group for a while today and it seems many BPD officers are having some refitting done to their gear, possibly to be compatible with the county switchover. One thing I don't know about is this: The county uses their in-car computers to receive quite a bit of information from dispatch. So, I assmue there will be any number of "carriers" such as 0336 on the city side.
