Good list. I’d just add what frequency they are dispatched on, what frequency or talkgroup for flight following, what JEMSTAR channel for REMCS, etc. For example, Atlantic “Flightcomm” now handles flight following for Cooper on their Medevac talkgroup on NJICS. Lots of constant changes over the years. Maybe update the wiki too.

This is sort of how the Wiki update happens every year is with a thread like this. As to one other point, while Flightcomm is handling flight following, Cooper-1/2 are still also reporting to REMCS as far as I've heard.

I have lost track with all the changes, outstanding recap. Thanks for that. My heads been spinning, like a rotorhead. Hours of service also make this a guessing game in the field. Some do not understand it is not 24/7 for some locations. Harder to follow that golden rule. My .02.

I normally monitor the Medevac on the NJ State 800 system. However, was just wondering which of these units are the helicopters always landing on the roof of the hospital in Atlantic City?

Also, when monitoring the State 800 MHz system from Atl City, which Site(s) should be programmed?

South Simulcast should be fine.

yup
What is the dispatch protocol now? My guess is -

----------------

Scene Calls

North half of state - 1st call - NorthSTAR - 2nd call - maybe SouthSTAR or a private helo? - 3rd call - private helo

South half of state - 1st call - SouthSTAR - 2nd call - maybe NorthSTAR or a private helo? - 3rd call - private helo

--------------

Transfer calls - from medical facility to medical facility - or maybe from airport to medical facility - or maybe from private helispot to medical facility

As requested by person arranging the transfer

Dispatch is based on the Nautical Miles of the closest Air Medical Unit (AMU) to the Landing Zone. A new flight CAD (FlightVector) was placed in service on June 1, 2020.

There is no primary, secondary etc.. rotation, it's all based on availability of the AMU's and the location of the Landing Zone in relation to the available AMU.

There is one exception, when more then one AMU resides at the same airport and it's a drive-up. The mission go's the AMU that is closest to the incident location.

However, in the State of New Jersey, a patient or patient representative does have the right to specifically request NorthSTAR or SouthSTAR (if available) if ALS determines they need to fly. It's part of the State's policy since NJSP Medevac services are subsidized down to to $1350 average patient cost, and are free to NJ residents in many cases. Private providers (Atlantic, HUMC, RWJBH, Penn, etc.) can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000 for a transport as short as 10nm.

With all do respect there are parts of the statement are not correct, the requesting agency does not have a option under current policy. It is the closet AMU to the LZ.

A patient and or representative can play a part in the selection of a AMU for a IHOP.

In addition there has not been a medical charge related to the JEMSTAR program for years. The total cost of the JEMSTAR program is funded via NJ Motor Vehicle Fees. Note: Part 91 air medical units can't charge for service vs. Part 135 that can.

And yes a private provider may charge what they feel is the fair market value, but I don't think while laying on the side of the road your going helicopter shopping.

Off the wire, The JEMSTAR program will be adding CentraSTAR to the line-up as a power shift AMU starting Thursday.

The location and days of operation will vary based on anticipated need during August.

That's how it was always explained to us as EMS. There's also several providers in New Jersey violating Part 91 then, cause I can tell you for a fact that Atlantic charges $13,510.37 for a Boonton Township to Morristown flight.
