Jenks online soon?

Spoke with a very reliable source that said Jenks should have the equipment in place VERY soon. He said they are staying with EDACS system. Hopefully they will be online soon. I am getting tired of not being able to broadcast from QT to the PD.

I don’t understand why BA, Bixby, Jenks Etc... don’t use the 800 MHz NPSPAC channels to communicate with Tulsa and other units on the State system.

TPD has them installed in their radios and they are conventional channels. Does anyone know if the agencies using the EDACS system have those frequencies installed?

I talked with our radio techs and they said that the itac channels are for the Motorola system only. They are also simplex and non repeaterd and thus very short range.

If I'm understanding you correctly, your radio techs said the NPSPAC (ITAC) frequencies are for use by Moto systems only? That is incorrect. These are nationwide frequencies for use by any law enforcement agency. Also, they can be set up for repeater operation, if an agency wants to spend the money to do so. They are this way in the DFW area, and also (I believe) some are in the OKC area. I have also heard (read) of agencies that have portable repeaters on the NPSPAC freqs in comm trailers so they can be set up at disaster scenes.

i hear ba talk to tulsa at least once a month on 38192. now i dont know if thats an edacs radio or if they have a motorola in dispatch and use it???

There has been a patch talkgroup placed into both BAPD and the state radio system.

Ref ITAC i am a personal friend of the BAPD Capt who implemented the EDACS system and he said they did NOT have that capability. I also have talked to BA officers who confirmed this.

Then they decided not to implement that. There is no reason other than possibly equipment (like they bought cheap radios that don't have enough channel capacity, for instance) for them not to have those freqs in their radios. Short-sighted, I'd say. I have read of other EDACS systems that included the NPSPAC 800 MHz channels in their radios, so I know it's possible.

I took the cb out of my patrol car years ago. With this newest one I dont have room. That laptop takes up a lot of space.

Have you thought about a handheld CB? Of course that will cut the range by a fair amount.

I think that tech was filling you full of you know what? The ITAC frequencies are indeed on a repeater here in the metro. The PL tone is 156.7 and the locations for the repeaters are 61st and Sheridan, BA andI think downtown? I think they can also be simplex and that is what he might have been referring too.

As far as we have been trained all itac are non repeatered. I have keyed up/or used some of them and no braking of squealch sound. I know we are scheduled for an upgrade in the immediate future. We will have to wait to see what we are getting. I imagine Creek co, some fire depts. I am curious
to see if they put the jail freqs in them since TCSO took it back over. That would be great when they dont open the sally port door to let you out. I bet they dont do that. Hopefully they are adding the pryor repeater.

If you don't have EMSA on your 5E yet they'll probably update that as well. I would imagine it's already programmed but probably the alpha tag would be added. Also, I'm looking at the console right now and it shows that the I-Call repeater is on but the I-Tac repeaters are turned off. So, if you're in range on the I-Call, you can use it as a repeater from any conventional capable 800Mhz radio providing you have the PL and are authorized.

Okay, getting back on topic if I may..... they have poured the concrete for the foundation of the storage building and I have seen the Jenks Fire Chief out there quite a bit working on the installation. I haven't talked to anyone about when they will be online but it may be soon (within a couple of months I hope) and it should help with our (Glenpool's) problems.
