BingoIn this week's episode of "What Did You Think Was Going to Happen"...
Ideas if this is the beginning of a transition?
Jersey City police department has 17 full time encrypted talkgroups according to the database.I think the key takeaway is it is confirmed they have encryption capabilities and now the question is wether they will use it full time. We don't know buut you would need to listen to the system a bit longer to figure it out. Also are multiple talkgroups encrypted or just o ne? Do they have the ability to turn encryption off and on? If they can switch encryption off and on for one talkgroup it's nlot a far stretch they can do this for other talkgroups. I'm really just spitballing here, but it gives you some idea on their next move
Jersey City has been operating on a P25 Phase I system for years. The XTS 2500 is perfectly capable of operating on that system, including with encryption enabled. I'm not sure what would make you think that they need to purchase new radios or infrastructure. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with their operation. As mentioned in the first post, the rollout of encryption has already begun using the existing subscribers and infrastructure.Even if they are going P-25 and encrypted. It’s not as simple as flipping a switch. First they have to buy new radios that can handle the P-25 trunking as well as encryption. Last I knew they were utilizing Motorola XTS 2500. So they most likely getting New radios. Then they might even need infrastructure for the new radios. Then they need to test and approve it. So I would say they might behind the timetable but they are most likely not going next week.
Yes i'm unfamiliar with their operation, i could use a lesson on radio systems.Jersey City has been operating on a P25 Phase I system for years. When the system was orgonally rolled out only ESU and a handful of others had AES enabled in their radios. And with Moto not supporting the XTS-XTL line any longer unless you see new subscribers get installed I would not get to nervous about seeing them go encrypted. But the bulk of their portables and mobiles are 10 plus years old, so i would assume new subscribers has to be in the near future.
