Re: Jersey City Fire Frequencies

I too am saddled with marginal reception from both Channel 2 460.600 {the main operating/dispatch channel} and their secondary frequency Channel 1 460.550. I've been told that when the Jersey City Medical Center buildings were sold to private developers, that the transmitting antenna was removed from JCMC roof and relocated up towards the Heights neighborhood at fire dispatch, the quarters of Engine 7/Ladder 3. While elevated, the signal isn't as powerful Jim

I don't believe that 460.600 was ever at the MC. To the best of my memory, it was always, and still is, located at 595 Newark Avenue, on the Hudson County Administration Building.

FCC license data shows that 460.55 has a transmitter site approved for 525 Washington Street, which is a pretty tall building. Maybe the radio shop is still in the process of moving things around.

I live in downtown Jersey City and have not noticed any change with the signal. Although I'm probably too close for there to be any difference.

The Main transmitters for both 460.550 and 460.600 are on the roof of 50 Baldwin Ave (formally Jersery City Medical Center). The police and EMS transmitters are up there as well. However, EMS is on 1 bldg and Fire & Police are on the other. I believe the city having access to the site was put in the deed. The backup transmitters for both 460.550 and 460.600 are on 595 Newark Ave (County Administration Bldg). I have been up to the radio rooms in each bldg. I have not worked for FDJC communications for 2 years, but I still talk to everyone. I don't think anything has changed. If I find anything out, I will post it. *Note* They are moving forward with a digital trunked system for public safety.
