"Testing" transmission heard on TalkGroup 1034 this afternoon at about 3:45PM. Data was on 476.150 Mhz and the P25 transmission was heard on 476.225 Mhz. I am using a Uniden BCD996T and the radio is programmed as a pure P25 system with NO base/offset/step settings.

Sytem update

city is in the process of issuing radio to all officers of JCPD as they arrive from Motorola. Motorola has a few techs in the city installing and programing radio in all city police vehicles. Dispatch center is not yet finished, unknown when.

Which scanner/radio???

So with the new system that's going to be put to use which scanner (both handheld and desktop) would be best to monitor JCPD and FDJC? Also curious, I'm guessing that for those who work within the pd/fd the best radio on the market for the system would be the Motorola XTS series?

That will depend on whether or not any of the PD channels become encrypted. If they do then any scanner will be useless. I would wait until the system has been online for some time to see what happens.

As stated by me a bunch of posts back, the rank & file office will be carrying an XTS1500 M1.5. That radio is only capable of doing ADP. The senior administration will carry XTS2500's, with certain units having AES capability for sensitive communications. I would assume that the majority of the traffic on the system will be in the clear.

Get yourself a 396XT/996 if Uniden is your type, 500/600 if GRE is your type, or the RS versions of the 500/600 if you want 'instant gratification'. :D

Stay away from any of the older scanners that require you manually fill out the P25 band-plan (Pro-96, etc...).

Jcpd Esu

The Patrol radios do not include the following, which are intalled in the ESU radios:

1034 - ESU Main (in the clear)
1035 - ESU TAC-1 (set up for ENCRYPTION, but not insalled yet)
1036 - ESU TAC-2 (set up for ENCRYPTION, but not insalled yet)
1037 - ESU Training (in the clear)

P.S. I hope they plan to get rid of the constant beeping / pinging, when monitoring the trunked system.

I seem to be having a problem getting the JC system up and running on my psr600. Just a quick question, What LCN order am I supposed to put the frequencies in? Am I putting in all 11 or just some?

LCN numbering only applies to EDACS systems.

All you need to put in right now is the single frequency in the database that is in red. It's the only control channel in use right now (similar to how Somerset County's system almost never moves off 501.9125).

The scanner will figure out everything else for you by reading the data in the CC-stream.

Mind you, the system isn't full-use yet. You might go quite a long time before you hear anything...
