One of the airline pilots that a local television station had on the telephone during their coverage calmly described to the viewers how the pilot in charge would likely handle the situation. He said it really wasn't a big deal. How he describe the procedure ended up being exactly how the pilot ended up handling it. But really, the television personalities were not interested in hearing calm rational talk like that. They wanted to hear sensational dire predictions! Later in the evening after the landing, talking to other commercial airline pilots about the landing, they were not particularly impressed. According to them, it wasn't a particularly difficult situation. It was way overblown by the media and a few other "ignorant talking heads." Commercial airline pilots are highly skilled and highly trained. Apparently any commercial airline pilot would have handled it just as well.
