Yes it was and one of the 49 freqs used by the phones was used quite extensively by the military when I was in. You wouldn't believe what you heard from housewife's while bored at home and on the phone.
Ocassionaly I could still hear someone using the 49mhz freqs, I kept the freq active in my X9000 up until a few years ago when I couldn't find a good place for the LB antenna on my Explorer. Roof is too thin and would rip out if I hit anything.
