Is Johnson City currently (12/8/04) having problems with broadcasting on their trunked radio system or is my scanner having problems?

I live in Bristol and have no trouble trunktracking Johnson City and
Washington County. I also trunktrack Bristol-Kingsport-Sullivan
County system. I have noticed no problems with the JC system.
I use the Uniden BCT8, BC235XLT, BC245XLT and BC895XLT. All
do a fine job. The Johnson City system is very busy with a lot of
traffic.

I have just check out the Johnson City Trunking system again
and they are not trunktracking so it must be their system. Your
scanner must be okay and JC is having radio problems. Sorry
for the first report just trying to help.

Does Johnson City have any plans to upgrade their radio system in the near future? If so, what is the timeline and does their plan call for upgrading to digital?

I would not be surprised if Johnson City does not update
their system like their sister cities of Bristol and Kingsport.
These cities use the Motorola type II smartzone analog and
apco 25. Johnson city uses Motorola type I system.

Eventually all will go digital but I have not heard any time
line. As you might know Johnson City was the first city in
the tri-cities to have a trunk system. So they will probably
be first all digital too.

I do not know of any all digital systems in northeast Tennessee.
The only trunk systems are Bristol-Kingsport-Sullivan County
and the Johnson City-Washington County.

I see a lot of unscanable frequencies being use in northeast
Tennessee and southwest virginia. Maybe Uniden can help us
on the unscanable frequencies like they did with digital.

Ummm unscannable??? What freqs are unscannable???? Unless its a iDen Digital Motorola system, VSELP Digital Motorola system, an EDACS Provoice Digital M/A-Com system,.. TETRA, OpenSky, or the like.... most of your top of the line scanners will scan anything from the KHz ranges, up to 2. something GHz. If your referring to the 70 MHz stuff.. thats scannable with the right scanners......
