Has Johnson City made changes to their system in the past few months? While I was there over the weekend my Pro-96 was receiving some TG id's as 5 digit numbers as opposed to the Type I system 3x2 format (i.e., ###-##). I had the block programmed in as shown in the database and it worked perfectly back in December. Have they upgraded to a Type II system or has the block changed?

Johnson city trunk system changes

This is a confirmation that the Johnson City radio net HAS been changed. New frequencies are currently unknown. Talked to a JC cop earlier tonight he didn't know new frequencies yet but did say he _thought_ it was 900mhz and he thought that it was _not_ digital. He said that the city bought used equipment in bulk from "somewhere out west," and that "the new radios aren't any better and don't give any better coverage than the old."

Update...

Stepped through the 940mhz band and found strong digital signals in the Johnson City area at:
940.2625
940.8250

possibly also something at:
940.2500
940.8375
but I think these were just bleedover from the "main" channels.

I don't have a digital scanner and I'm not for sure what these are.

It is very unlikely (although possible) that they are on 900 MHz (they would have to be on a business system in that band). It sounds like they may have just upgraded their Motorola system to Type II. Have you tried scanning the 800 MHz frequencies in conventional mode to see if you hear the public safety conversations?

Here's what I've gotten so far... getting the id's directly off the scanner. I've only added a label when I actually heard an officer identify the channell as such or if it was obvious (as with the animal control).

more talkgroup ids

08400 = JCPD TAC1
09008 = Wash. Cty. SO Records
10192 = Wash. Cty. SO Talkaround
26352 = Unk. JCPD talkgroup
30768 = Phone Patch - unk. agency.

Also I was recieving ETSU pub. safety off of one of the previously listed talkgroups... unfortunately didn't get to the scanner in time to see which one.

Some might be interested to know that according to Sunday's paper Johnson City has left the public safety officer program and is now again a Police Department and is no longer training officers in fire duty... reasons behind this include a much larger fire department than in the past and a much higher population (nearly doubled in last 15 years) and the fire calls were affecting overall response and service times. They have a new patch, new identification on the cars (they are going to phase out the old striping gradually) and as we know a new (or well NEWER anyways) radio system.
