Sure, just take it back into the store with you along with your receipt. If they balk, just say, "OK, I want to return it for a refund, in-store credit." Then buy it back at the new price...... Or if they are REALLY pissy about it, return that one and ask to buy one that hasn't been "used!"

Hoping to get back 100 dollars. to uses for a 3rd digital scanner around the end of the year. i have not had any problems with the RS in olathe yet. do you know if the Black friday is all day or does it have a time limit.

Hot Friday items are usually limited quanity (no rainchecks, so get there early) I think the sale prices are good until 12 noon.....

Already got permission from the boss to get one for work! Be my luck the local store won't have one in stock :) but Wichita isn't that far!

Why would I be surprised that at 2 different shacks in Wichita they a) had no idea that they even sold a digital scanner or what it was or b) have 'no reason" to stock them. Went back to Newton and got it there (4 hours after the sale started and they still had the 2 they started the day with).

I wonder if their are any users of the new 700 mhz system on here that can provide some usage experience from their perspective. Police officers, firefighters, ems, khp, road dept, etc. I think it would be interesting to hear how well they like the new system compared to their old ones, whether their were on the 800 or they are from a city that had their own UHF. Any stories about coverage, complaints, or any comments would be nice

As far as individual user reports, I did ask a Lenexa officer why they didn't just encrypt everything. According to him, when they switch on encryption the quality suffers. He said several encryption demos were quite annoying to listen to. As of now, based on that performance, the consensus is that encrypted comm won't be coming to Lenexa anytime soon.
Encouraging?

Not sure if anyone was listening late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning...

Deputies in De Soto had several calls dealing with a black male that was armed in a neighborhood, getting in cars and houses and an attempted carjacking. Deputies called for assistance from neighboring agencies including Lenexa with their K-9 again. Lenexa, Shawnee and KHP all had a few units respond and set a perimeter. This is where the radio problems began. Deputies asked the agencies that responded to assist to switch their radios to "PS Tac 1" and give a test count on that TG.

A Lenexa officer switched and I heard him transmit on the TG that is in the RR database as De Soto PD City. His dispatcher gave him the channel that his portable radio should be set on, he confirmed that is where he was and was not getting a response. Lenexa dispatch asked what the display on his radio read, he replied, "PS Tac 1". Lenexa gave up on finding the right radio channel and continued to go through dispatchers.

I never heard Shawnee attempt to switch to a different channel, and from the location where they were KHP troopers were unable to get out on the Analog system, they did not have radios for the JoCo Digital system. Troopers could only reach their dispatch using KSICS on KHP Troop A1.

Anyways, it sounds like there is quite a bit of work, or at least some training, to be done before JoCo LE agencies have true interoperability with this system.

Later that morning Lenexa did find the channel setting on their radios that matched the TG listed in the RR database as "PS Tac 1" and their radios alpha tags did not match. ECC were the ones that heard a Lenexa officer on "PS Tac 1" and replied to them there.

I found that interesting that Lenexa's portables seem to either have mislabeled TG's. Neither the Dispatchers or Officers seemed to have much of any idea what channel setting the portable radios needed to be switched to. Lenexa and Southzone Sheriff Dispatchers.

This sounds like out-of-phase signal reception from more than one tower. I get the same thing with the Leavenworth Co. simulcast system when I'm mobile. If this IS the problem, try attaching your antenna to the radio itself and slowly move the radio an inch at a time while it is receiving a digital transmission. When one of the towers overrides completely, you should get clear reception if the problem is phasing. Then leave the radio right there. Even a couple of inches at 700/800 MHz. can make all the difference. With simulcast systems the number of "bars" is not always a good indicator.

Both my Uniden and GRE scanners have this problem, but my county radio never does. It's only a problem with commercial scanners thus far.

programming a pro-97

Subscribed to this thread. Defiantly let us know when dates start getting set. I have a digital setup picked out. Looking to purchase by mid-May at the latest unless something changes and more agencies make the switch sooner.
Does anyone know how to program a pro-97. I am trying to overwrite a scancat program. I recently moved from missouri to kansas and I live in Prairie Village and I am trying to program the scanner. I followed the instructions on the computer and the scanner but it doesn't seem to be taking the frequencies....help

Do you have a Pro-97 (Analog Handheld) or a Pro-197 (Digital Desktop)? If you have the Pro-97 you will not be hearing anything with this Digital system.

Does anybody know when Overland Park and Leawood Police are going to switch to the Johnson County P25 System?

I've had Leawood programmed in and monitoring them for a while. Or at least I THINK I have??? LOL
Kind of like Prairie Village, I don't have need to listen except when I'm working over there, or driving home LATE at night! That 75th St. corridor is a gauntlet after midnight.

O.P. is another story. Being as its a large city, maybe it takes longer to get all their ducks in a row?

I believe since OP is such a large department (in comparison with Leawood, Prairie Village, etc.) there is more red tape that must be passed before moving onto the new system. I have talked with a few officers of the OPPD, and none of them know when this expected switch for them is. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I do not have any experience with the 2096 but, just looking at the RR Wiki page about it. Unless the information there is outdated, it does not appear the 2096 covers 700MHz...

Sorry I can't be of more help. Hopefully someone will chime in and be able to help you better then I can.

It doesn't look like the 2096 supports 700 MHZ channels. That is 13 of the 15 on the JOCO system.
