Since I read that EDACS is going to eventually be phased out, is Johnston County going to finally lose ProVoice and switch to a new system?

thanks for letting me know. I wonder if it will be phase 1 or 2 or if they will just join more of the viper system. I just hope with my bcd396xt I will be able to hear more. I wish it was 2014 for the switch instead of another year.

Johnston County is going to P25 but according to a fireman that I spoke with, its not going to be fully switched until 2018.

Per the communication guy here its 2015 because they will nt be getting more parts for the edacs system. They have already started the process to move to P25.

Thanks goodness.

Finally a system that will be easier to monitor.

Now if Harnett Co. and Hickory City will take a hint and switch as well.

Very few channels use ProVoice in harnett co. I know you can hear pretty much everything in harnett co.

As far as I am aware they are still using their ProVoice system.

They have few talkgroups on VIPER & the Wake County Radio System for interoperabilty
but the day to day comms are still held on the ProVoice System.

Last time I was up there I picked up some traffic can't remember exactly what was picked up but it was in the clear

Yep. The Johnston County System is a mixed analog and digital ProVoice system.
Most public safety operates in Provoice digital mode which can't be received on commercially available scanners. However there a few public safety TGs left in analog
mode that can be heard (ie: RESCUE TAC).
