Does anyone know if the System has a problem, the system drops out south of ellisville and is mostley nonexistent around Moselle when you get to Petal it becomes clear again also in Hattiesburg it's clear. According to the Jones EOC Tec. the system is at full power. Does anyone know what maybe the problem.

Inside of the circuit....
Looking at the site information:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&action=fcc&cs=WPUA824

It appears that it would make sense that the weaker part of the system would be in the areas you described - which is right in between the north and south towers of the system. The antennas for the system are at substantial heights, so they're probably covering how they are expected to cover. It also depends on how quickly your radio or scanner is switching from the north tower to the south tower. They are not simulcast, so a switch is necessary to roam from the coverage of one tower to the other.

Additionally, the system may be designed only for a certain percentage of the county getting mobile coverage. If this is the case, then your scanner with a rubber duck inside of the car may not do too well in fringe areas, where a real Motorola mobile radio with a 3db gain antenna on the roof would be doing just fine.

Just some things to think about.

I ask the system Tec. he did say it was up at full power also the Trasmitter just does not cover that ara well which is bad because that part of the county and in Forrest County it picks up better. I have tried to tune to the control channel but cant even pick it up. I am using a pro-97 with a 800mhz antenna maybe if i used a Amp it may help in that area.

The control channel for the Jones South tower is 860.7125.

The tech says the system is at full power. Talk to some of the Deputies that work the South end of the County and they will tell you if you aren't on the ridge lines you will have to use the Statewide Low Band radio. Which they use quite a bit!

South Tower

I know for a fact that you get better Signal from Jones South Tower in Petal then in Southwest Jones County, in fact in Runnelstown you get better signal then Moselle, I understand the tower is in petal but why are we covering an area we dont need, after the storm the landscape was rearranged and RF does drift a bit so maybe it just need to be tweaked a bit.

Its the way your scanner recieves friend... You will also find in some areas your scanner will recieve better than the real Motorola equipment. I found this out in Asheville at a coupkle of spots.. My PRO-97 picked up better than the XTS-3000's that APD, and AFR use.

Well its a fact among that there is a weak area and that along with the fact the sensitivity of the Pro-97 is not the best, guess it's just how it is. Don't get me wrong I like my Pro-97 but its not perfect. There is about a five mile area where its dead could be trees not sure but thats just how it is.
