I bought one of these because it seemed like a neat idea.

I think I ordered it Saturday and it arrived today. It is not only a neat idea, it's a well built neat idea.

I haven't had the problem with my latch breaking that others have, but I like the idea of having a bit more leverage when opening the latch.

In addition to having a longer lever, the hinge is full length across the width of the latch. That's a nice touch and will likely increase durability over the life of the scanner.

The color match is not exact as the new latch is just a shade or so lighter. Unless you plan to spend hours staring at the bottom of the scanner, that shouldn't be an issue.

Installation is very easy. Place the scanner face down, remove the cover and battery. Then loosen the four screws in the battery compartment. Separate the back ever so slightly and the latch and pin will fall out. Slide the pin into the new latch, line it up with the slots in the case, and hold it all together while you're tightening the screws.

Replace the battery and you're done.

Could you make one for the original battery door as well?

I use my small battery a whole lot more than the large battery

I can, I just have to shorten the release tab. If you want one, go ahead and order, and mention you want the short version in the order notes.

There used to be a place to add a note with the order, just before you click the final pay button.

Oh I'm clear, I checked and double checked, and couldn't locate it. I do appreciate the great things you do for these scanners. Glad to see there's Something going on with them.

Well shame on them for removing that option then. I guess people will just have to send me a separate email about their order.

Uniden needs to step up and hire this man. Or the equivalent, if there is one. Deep loss with Paul’s passing, we are all feeling the pain in several ways, one the lack of virtually any support / improvements / additions to the SDS series.
