hey, I'm new to this site, so I apologize if this is not the correct forum. I just acquired a realistic pro-2006 scanner and I can pick up the local sheriffs dept. fairly well, but I'm having a hard time picking up ems or anything else. I believe the police dept. is digital so I know I'm out of luck there, but I was thinking about getting an external antenna to receive the ems (and whoever else I can) better. The sheriff dept. frequency is 453.475, the ems is 151.055 and 155.325, other frequencies are mainly in the 151-155 range. Would a j-pole or slim jim antenna help? I live out the country so there are plenty of trees. I live about 13 miles southeast from downtown Natchez. Thanks in advance

Any type antenna located out of doors, slightly above roof top, will significantly improve reception. Most all of the signals for the various depts. have repeaters south of Natchez. The sheriff and Metro ambulance repeat their signals at Doloroso. AMR (155.325) is also repeated south of Natchez. The city police are in fact analog on 453.5125 and 460.2625, however after programming them be sure to release the delay setting or else the scanner will lock up on those frequencies. Also, Natchez FD can be monitored on 453.7625, follow same advice on the delay settings. With an outside antenna your listening experience will improve considerably. At your location, you can easily receive most of Wilkinson County. Sheriff is at 156.135, Woodville PD 153.740 and they have several fire and rescue freqs available from the Radio Reference database.
