Just thought I 'd post that PSREdit500 works fine with with the Beta release of Windows 7 64 bit using my pro-106. The data cable driver I couldn't use the cd that came with it as it would not load at all. Strange as I thought a read some where that all drivers that worked on Vista would work on Windows 7 but as Vista saw it and loaded its own driver Windows 7 wouldn't.

I had to find the manufacture of the chipset (FTDI Ltd) for the data cable and downloaded the latest from their website and had to do the bypass (Running the following command from an elevated CMD prompt: bcdedit /set testsigning on) due to the driver not being digitally signed to get it to install the driver. All works fine and minus a couple of non supported devices even Windows 7 is running fine.

The reason a driver won't load under Windows 7 x64 is because it's digitally signed and the digital signature is different now for some hardware. What you can do to get that device working under Windows 7 x64 with that specific driver for Vista x64 is to reboot the PC, and just as the POST finishes (Power On Self-Test) press F8 once or twice to get the Windows 7 pre-boot options screen. On that screen, down near the bottom of the list will be an option labeled "Disable driver signing enforcement" which will then allow you - once you continue booting and only for that one session - load the device driver under Windows 7 x64 without issues.

You will need to do that F8-choose to disable the signing enforcement each time you boot the machine to keep that device/driver working together. It's not really a bug as the driver enforcement ensures that Windows 7 x64 (and Vista x64) is far more stable than the 32 bit (x86) counterparts of the same OS.

Also, contact the device manufacturer to make sure they have intentions to re-certify their devices and drivers with Windows 7 x64 so they will get the software re-signed with the update digital signatures. I'm currently using a Keyspan USA-19HS Serial-to-USB device for my BCT15 and I just encountered the same issue: the Vista x64 driver isn't compatible because it lacks the updated digital signature, so I simply rebooted, disabled the driver signing enforcement, and on the finished reboot the USA-19HS works fine when I plug it in. Windows 7 x64 will "warn" you that you're using an unsigned driver but it's not relevant - the device driver loads and it works fine.

(I wrote this for those that might not get into doing the boot modifications using the bcdedit command in an elevated Command Prompt which is more "permanent" until you change it back to the defaults. For most people, the F8-disable method is easier... at least in my decades of tech support experience it is...) :)

Hope this helps...
