Hello everyone, just took advantage of the Radio Shack Pro 96 sale and picked one up. I also have a Pro 97. The 97 I just had some train frequencies and airport stuff. Now that I can get the digital stuff I have a small question. I did some searching about talkgroups and trunking and think I got the idea. Just need a little clarificaion on programming.

Take for example this page here http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1384

From what I understand, I just need to put the red frequencies into the channel bank, and then all of the talkgroups into that same bank right? Is it that simple or am I missing alot more?

Thanks!

Correct, Set bank to MOT, program the red controls only, then program the 5 digit DEC talk groups and alpha tags using the TEXT key.

Under my signatuire is a link to Programming Shortcut for the 96.

Thanks fmon. So those 4 frequencies will let me listen to all that on that list?

Lets take this one step further, say I wanted all of the police in Bank 1 channels 1-20. Then I would put those frequencies in bank 1 and then enter all the police talk groups right? If i wanted all the fire in bank 2, I would put those same frequencies in bank 2 and all the fire talk groups in bank 2? Would i have problems with duel frequencies?

I guess what I am getting at is that I would like to separate fire/police and other into different banks. From what i said just above is that the way to do it?

Thanks

Frequencies go into the banks--- 0, 1, 2, etc.. The TGID's go into the subbanks. Are you using Win96 to program the radio? If not, when you are done programming the bank with the red color frequencies, press F, then TRUNK. This will put you into the subbank for programming the TGID's and their corresponding alphatag. They do not go into the same area as the trunking frequencies. Just a little clarification.

Bank 1 for police and 2 for fire will be fine using red freqs in each bank. Then toggle bank if not needed. Don't froget to set each bank to CLOSED Mode using FUNC 5.

Thank you both for your replies, I think I got it. I just didnt want to have all those talk groups in one bank, I like to keep things organized

N8IAA, Yes I am using Win96 and importing from the site here, but I also wanted to make sure I understood the way the scanner worked with frequencies and talkgroups. Thanks for the clarification on channel banks and the subgroups.

I think I understand it and am ready to program my scanner!

Thanks alot!

Scanner sounds great! Getting all types of talk on it.

Thanks for the help
