Hi I am just getting started with sdr in the hopes it will peak my interest in ham radio ibwould like to eventually get a license and nice set up but for now I have a nooelec nesdr xtr with the ham it up plus is there an all around antenna that would allow me to recive some ham bands short wave am and fm nfm I can only get about 25 feet for a mast would like to listen tobas much as possible and as far as possible I am in Michigan was thinking about abdiscone but not sure would eventually like to pick up broadcasts from the iss

You could make a homemade dipole antenna for the ham it up. A homemade dipole would be a good start for HF. A dipole for multiband bands or a long wire, would work better than a discone antenna for HF. I made my own center feed dipole for my attic. It's a 8 band one.

To listen to the ISS, you could make a homemade yagi antenna. Something like a yagi tape measure antenna. A discone antenna may work at times for the ISS.
