My boss was clearing out a retired colleague’s “goodies” box and asked me if I wanted the pair of mint condition, sequential (late) serial number AR8000 scanners he found. As he was going to drop them in the electrical waste skip if I didn’t want them I decided to force myself to rehome them…

Decent little pair of receivers in as-new condition, hardly used and with the pair of mains wall-warts.

That’ll do, thank you very much. 😀

Indeed, I’m really happy!
I also now have a couple of RFSpace SDR units so it has been a good day for receivers. 😀

By way of a small update, the AR8000 is a pretty darned good receiver, especially at VHF airband which is where these have seen most use. They don't have 8.33 kHz channel steps (important here in the UK/EU for airband monitoring) but they do have the ability to set any sep you like, pretty much, in multiples of 50 Hz. It's a bit of a bear to program memories and it certainly likes a bit of power; a set of AA Alkaline cells lasts 5 hours or so!

Still, they are nice receivers and I'm putting them to good use.

I can certainly recomment these to anyone who likes older radios.
