Just ordered for an G5 pager, Is there anything that I need to know? I'm a Newbie

Hi there, I just purchased the G5, Is there anything that I need to know about the pager? Is it easy to program? Is the firmware mandatory? Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

It looks like you will need to program this system: Indian River County Public Services (P25) Trunking System, Vero Beach, Florida Being a premium subscriber, you will be able to download it directly from the Radio Reference database. Have you installed the PPS programming software? The PPS version will depend upon the firmware version in your pager.

No, I haven't installed it yet, but I have downloaded it...At the moment it's on backordered I believe.

I recommend you install the PPS and start experimenting with programming your local systems of interest. You'll be that much further along when your G5 arrives.

I disliked PPS so much that it made me delay buying a G5 until I was totally sure how I was going to have it set up. I bought one but still think PPS is a p.o.s.

Here is one tip. I use the RR import feature in PPS for P25 sites but I download RR talkgroups to a CSV and organize/filter/delete in Excel prior to importing the CSV into PPS.

With the direct import there is no way to filter encrypted TGs nor service types.

PPS was much worse before the RR import feature was added. But even with that, it's still wonky compared to most scanner software. I know, I know. The Unication is a pager, not a scanner.

Hi there, I have been practicing using the PPS.. Upon importing the RR database into the software, there is 1 site and 10 channels from the Indian River Database for the Fire. I don't know what the designated number will be for the G5..
I'm supposed to get the G5 by next Tuesday.

You did not choose the easiest device to program, but because it is hard, you will have a lot of flexibility. Strap in.

I not sure what you mean by “extra programming”. But it is not as simple as just downloading the system via radioreference. There is more configuration to be done.

At the very least, you will need to assign talk groups to knob positions.

You might check the sharing site. It may have a config for your area, or at the very least, give you some ideas.
