Just got to wait till Friday!!!!! The local shacks have quite a few of them in stock, Pro 197. I have a 15 dollar off coupon they sent me that I will use to lower the price even more. Some say there is a 25 dollar off one floating around but I have not seen it.

Funny Suit. I hope not Eric. That would not be a pretty sight in my case. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on ends just thinking about that. Going to call later today to make sure they have a good supply of the 197 so when I get there at 5:20 AM Friday one will be available.

I believe the $25 off deal that some have mentioned is actually a gift card towards a "future purchase", not an instant off coupon. I received a mailing from RS that states exactly that. Specifics below:
"Make a qualifyng in-store purchase of $50 or more and get a $25 gift card to use toward your next purchase". The offer is good through 12/31/10. It also clearly states that "Gift Card may not be used on same purchase", indicating it is to be used on a future purchase. It also states that photocopies will not be accepted. I do have the $15 dollar instant off coupon and will be using that to bring the $299 down to $284 on Friday.

One at one store, 3 at the other 2 stores. Of course, the larger amounts are 21 miles away and 24 miles away. Go figure.

Here is an idea. Purchase the radio as a separate transaction, then purchase the $35 programming cable as a second transaction and apply the $25 gift card. Also see if can apply the $15 off coupon to the initial radio purchase.
If you include a power adaptor and batteries in the programming cable purchase, you may be able to get the total high enough to apply some more dollar off coupons. By the time your done, they will be paying you to take the radio out the door!!!!
The Radio Shack BF Flyer shows a Pro-163. I had read user written reviews on the Pro-163 and they were not that good. They seemed to indicate that the Pro-163 was just a renamed version of a previous model. I have a Pro-160 and was thinking to add the Pro-163 to my collection, but when I compared the features of the two units, I don't see any improvements over my Pro-160. Anyone else know better?

Talk about bad luck! I just bought the PRO-106 for $399.00 and now they go on sale. I am going back on Fri or Sat morning and asking for a $100 refund on the difference. If they dont give it to me I am going to package the thing up and return it just to buy it again. Man just my luck!! I just bought it Tue afternoon. If it was not for bad luck I would have no luck. " I could fall into a bucket of boobs and come out sucking my thumb!!

If I am not mistaken, If it goes on sale within 30 days of your purchase, they will give you the sale price. I am not sure on that????? Good Luck Scott.

Take it back before Friday and get a FULL refund. Go back Friday and buy is for $100 Less.

Radio Shack has a great price protection guarantee. I've used it for a programming cable I bought and within two weeks it went on sale. Just took the receipt back into RS and they refunded the difference. No problems or questions. Give 'em a "nice" shot first.
If I remember right it's good for 30 days.
I just spent some time calling around to different Radio Shacks. I have found that you need to call 3 or 4stores and if you get the same answers at all of them, that it is probably factual. Now, I don't want to scare others, I am in the Albany NY area. Here is what I have found for my area:
The entire area has a couple of 197's and one 106.
And they each told me that I cannot buy it today and get the better price on Friday as that rule does not apply to Black Friday purchases/sales.
Sounds to me like Radio Shack strategically makes sure the inventory is very low on some items...considering the 4 closest stores to me will not have any and the entire area has 4 digital scanners.
The entire area has a couple of 197's and one 106.

I'm not sure RS will price match Black Friday deals. But I think you could still buy the item before Friday, and return it on Black Friday and re-buy it at the Black Friday price. That way you will know that they have the scanner in stock on Black Friday (as you'll just be re-buying your original scanner).
The RS store I just was at stated he knew of the price change Friday. Told me to pick it up today and bring in the receipt Friday to get the price match. He also threw in a programming cable for free. He also said to take the survey for the $10 off coupon. Should this all be false I will just return it, and buy it again.
I don't have a Pro-160 so I can't tell you if there's any improvements, but I do have the Pro-163 and I really like it. It was easy to program manually even though I bought the cable.
I'll be with the rest of you calling around to the Radio Shacks in my area today to see what the stock looks like. If they only have 1 or 2 I'll be ordering it online tomorrow and sleep in Friday!
