I had one for a short time, Never quite mastered it but it did fine on VHF and Air band. Never had any luck with HF. I am sure my error was in the antenna. What are you using for an antenna?

When I had my ICOM R-20 I got turned onto a device called the Miracle Duck. It is basically an antenna tuner that goes between the radio and the rubber duck antenna or any antenna with a BNC connection. I also used a single long wire with an aligator clip clipped to the telescoping antenna for HF reception.

All in all they are fun little radios.

Good luck with it.

They work very well- the duck that is. Like I said before I had excellent results with about a 30' piece of wire with an aligator clip clipped to a telescoping whip for HF. Another antenna to look for is the Diamond RH-77CA.

I have a Alinco DJX-10T, for over a year, a very nice unit, expensive but, i just purchased for $500+ HomePatrol 1, from what i have read about it, it seems to be able to do it all.
As for antenna on the ALINCO i have a rubber duckie 800MHz BNC, and it works just fine.I also use a Radio Shack top mounted extension antenna BNC also have good results on all bands. A=36X10+B=36X10+C=36X10= TOTALS channels are 1080. But I do not know that many freq? now the HomePatrol Over 10,000 Help, Help!!!! This is going to be fun.

as a new comer myself,i think you may want a rig that will TX-RX on maybe shortwave, from what ive read
it will probably come down to your antenna to determine the range of your communications.

then theres skip and solar cycles ,satcom and satcom pirates(not advocating, just mentioning) ...which for now is over my head..

as far as gear,in my experiences ebay has been a good resource,, and by luck ive made great scores as far as costs..just my thoughts, others may differ.

Hi

I have owned a DJX10T for around 5 years. So far the radio has been very good. Very slow scan rate compared to many other scanners.

I had made my own telescopic antenna for this radio from an old rabbit ears tv antenna. The antenna extends from 300mm to 1m or 1foot to 3foot. Whip Antenna

One issue that has happened with the radio is the power board is now damaged due to constant use of external power input. Ive used a 12v 1A power pack for some time as the battery only lasts 4 hours and requires 11-12 hours recharge time. I had tried lower rating power packs but the radio just wouldn't light up (12v 500ma). The radio would get very warm/hot at the power input plug and now no longer works if I plug in power there. So my power board needs to be repaired or replaced.

I have had to power the radio now from where the battery pack connects. Haven't had a problem running a 6v 500ma power pack hooked up via alligator clips. Just make sure you connect the right polarity to the correct connection.

There was once a yahoo group for this radio but it is now gone.

If you need an interface cable for the radio I have some diagrams here Interface Cable

There is also a usb cable available now for this radio. Check above link for info.

Cheers
Lee

I use to own the DJ-X10. In a metro environment the front end is overloaded but when out in the country or desert, it really pulls in signals. With the Diamond RH77 I was able to hear Satcom with no problems.
