I was just wondering how many people are in oregon that read this forum. Seems like there are a few people that are pretty regular. Anyways I think it would be great if we all knew each other a little better. (I.E. Personal notes of interest, other things you are good at. What area you live in .. etc) I'll start it off

Name: Steve
Location: Hillsboro OR (Washington County)
Age: 23
Time Scanning: About 1 month on my own. When I was a kid my dad had a
scanner and I listed to his a lot.
Other intrests: Computers mostly
Favorte things to listen
to on the scanner: Mostly listen to public safety stuff.
Job: I work for a telcom in their network operations center. I get a lot of
time to listen to my scanner since I work the graveyard shift.
Other Info: Married with 3 children ages 7, 1, and 1 month

Suppose I'll share too.

Name: Kameron (Kam)
Loc: Grants Pass, OR (Southern Oregon, Josephine County)
Age: 25
Scanning: Been doing it for years. Started with tuning into SW frequencies when I was about 11 years old and moved on from there. Kinda got back into it again in 2003.
Interests: Anything electronic, since I was young. Computers/networking, home and car stereo, etc. Developing web-based solutions in PHP/MySQL. I also keep to my Southern Oregon roots by occasionally shooting guns, driving around in the mountains, and blowing things up. (safely, of course! :D)
Listen to: Public Safety, usually locked onto the local PD to be nosy and see who's getting busted for blatant idiocy. Occasionally scan business bands if something interesting seems to be going down. For some reason I've also been enjoying listening to the construction workers in town swearing over the air about bad drivers.
Employment: Sr. Systems Admin for a wholesale ISP. We have 10 local employees, so it's a pretty small company - I manage the servers/network equipment/telecom equipment/write code/etc.
Misc: Happily married for almost a year now. No kids yet, want to buy a house first (but good luck with the current market!)

Great idea!!

Name: Tim
Loc: Portland, OR
Age: 41
Scanning: Been a scanner/shortwave radio hobbyist for about 30-years (on and off).
Other interests: Electronics, computers, camping, dirt bike riding and woodworking.
Listen to: Mainly listen to public safety, NASA freqs when available, and PDX. I also like to decode weather sats, acars, and pocsag now and then.
Employment: I currently work at Intel in Hillsboro as a Network Test Engineer--used to be a sys admin but burned out on it.
Misc: Married to my first wife for 20-years now, three kids ages 13, 16 and 20. Really glad I own my house right now but would like to move out of Portland and out towards the country. Hopefully prices stabilize soon. I am fairly new to this web site and between work, school (working on BA in Info Tech) and family I don't have a lot of free time to spend on hobbies.

Hello from Salem

Name: Bruce
Loc: Snailem (Salem)
Age: 52 (gawd am I that age already!?)
Scanning:Since I got into radio/radio news back in the early 1970s. Then law enforcement as a reserve officer (had to hear what my peers were up to). I own 2 radio shack scanners Pro 96 and a Pro 95. Listen to mostly public safety channels, television news two way radios and railroad stuff.
Other interests:barbecuing, smoking cigars, reading mysteries, traveling and the never ending saga of trying to keep my yard weed free-a loosing battle!
Emp Director of marketing for Traeger Wood Pellet Grills and on Saturdays I host a talk-show on KXL radio in Portland.
Married 13 years, 1 cat, no kids.
I think this is a great site and I enjoy hearing pursuits on the scanner--though I haven't been able to catch any of OSP's 100MPH+ chases.

They've still got the infrastructure in place, but only use it if the cellular or OTA IFB goes out.
Since I never got around to asking, what did they use it for?

Not me. I stopped monitoring Clark Cnty. when they stopped using the OPS talk groups for fire. Why they use the TAC talk groups for both PD & FD is beyond me. I only listen to fire, so it was fine when I could run Dispatch and the OPS groups. Just another of the rather silly things they do up there, in my opinion. :)

Well start listening again in June. Beginning June 7th, we "wise up" and begin countywide tapout on the TAPOUT channel (currently CTRL 7). Response will be on FIRECOM (currently CTRL 9), and there will be OPS channels (40-49) as well. The RR database will be updated prior to June 7th with the OPS channels.

That's great news. Should be a big improvement. Thanks very much.

I stand corrected- I guess they use it on a daily basis to talk to Chopper 7 [800mhz system that is]

The tone remote is under the desk where I snapped that last picture.

Don't worry about the bandwidth. Most of what I was trying to do with joescanner.com Lindsay has done here, so as my renewal date for the server comes up I'm debating whether or not to keep it up and running....

As far as stupid people on max... incidents like that are so common.... but how about the one where a car full of teenagers that had been drinking (and had open containers) turned left onto burnside off of 122nd and started to drive up the max tracks... right in front of undercover transit police? That's the funniest one lately.

The really bizarre thing is that I've seen (in my days as a MAX operator, then MAX supervisor, and a bus driver before that) and heard (in my days as a Rail Controller) so many things that you wouldn't believe -- and the dumb asses think it's just perfectly normal.

People that watch live action police shows (Cops, Police Videos, whatever else there is out there) don't see anything compared to some of the stuff we've seen on CCTV. Yes, people really are monitoring.

thanks for your kind comments.
