K and W

Many if not all radio related licenses (radio stations, frequencies, ham, ect.) start with this letter. Was it just random or does anyone know why?

Well not having to have read the Wikipedia article and based upon the fact that I practically grew up in a radio station, my Dad worked as a Radio Announcer or DJ, I knew that, as far as broadcast stations, most W's were east of the Mississippi while K's were west of the Mississippi. ;)

However there were exceptions to this "old" rule...

In the USA the following callsign blocks are allocated exclusively:

AAA-ALZ
KAA-KZZ
NAA-NZZ
WAA-WZZ
