Last Tuesday, March 16, Kannapolis Fire Dispatch discontinued tone and voice paging across their VHF frequency of 154.430. At this time I cannot confirm if 154.965 is still in use for station alerting, (telemetry data only no voice), however Cabarrus Fire Dispatch is still using their VHF frequency (154.340) for tone and voice dispatching. This move comes almost three years to the day after NCSHP discontinued use of their low band frequencies for much of the piedmont area of the state. Although these changes should come at no surprise to us who have "been in this business" for quite some time, learning of agencies abandoning the VHF or UHF band still leaves a void in my heart.
As I'm sure we'll be hearing more counties and agencies making this move after Phase II is fully implemented, is anyone witnessing this happening now or hearing that it will happen soon around your part of the state?
