How can I set up a favorites system separately for each of the Kansas Highway Patrol Troops. I have an SDS100 scanner and using Sentinel.

In Sentinel, under every county/statewide, KSICS is listed.
Under KSICS, you will see the individual troops.
Right click on each troop and click on append to favorite list.
Set up a new favorite for each one.....

I don’t know this system or area, but I would suggest not creating separate favotites lists and repeat the single system across multiple FLs, especially if you would ever want to monitor more than one troop concurrently.

What I would suggest is place it in one FL and use department quick keys for each of the troops.

Lots of ways to approach this.
Alot depends on if GPS is - or is not being used.

Because I use GPS and very defined rectangles, I have all my local LE favorites built based on geography.

But, yes, only one FL for the State Patrol, with the different districts controlled by QK/GPS.

I'm in the NYC area, so there's a LOT of systems covering a LOT of area, and I don't want to listen to, nor scan, all of them.

What I have done is loaded up the entire system (including the frequencies and sites) that all the troops are in, in one Favorite List.

On the right side, where you have all the Talk Groups, under "Avoid," I right-click on that, and click on "Select All." I then go down to the one troop I want to listen to, and right-click on that and then "Clear Avoid."

You can change the name of the Talk Group to reflect the one troop you're listening to.

Do that for each troop, then you can assign a Quick Key (or whatever) to each troop.

While you can carefully select individual troops or other departments on the statewide KCICS system, if you then try to append each troop to a different Favorites list, each time you append that selection to a new Favorites list, Sentinel will also append all of the sites to each list. Then you would need to manually delete the unneeded sites in a given list, or set those sites to avoid. Using location with a GPS would mitigate that, but you'd still be scanning more sites than are needed.

That would be a better choice. In addition to the various KHP troops, you likely would also want to be able to monitor other agencies, such as various FDs. EMS agencies, plus county and city law enforcement. You can assign a QK for each of the various troops, to be able to scan them individually,, or whatever combination you need, like when you are near a boundary between two or more divisions. Carefully setting ranges, and using a GPS cam make it easier to handle the changeovers for you.

Since you are a Premium Subscriber, you can use ProScan or ARC536 to import only the troops, departments, and sites that you want.

The SDS series scanners take somewhere around a second or so to acquire & decode the control channel for each site. So including more sites than you actually need can slow your scanning speed down noticeably. Ideally, you would need to focus on the sites that carry the specific troop and other agencies in that area (if you want to scan both them as well as KHP). Note that talkgroups for a given troop, or other agency, will normally be carried only on the sites that cover their area. You might have KHP troops, from other areas, with their related quick key enabled. But unless one of their units in in your area, though still using their 'home area' TGID, then they might pop up on one of your nearby sites. That can occur if they were out of their normal area on official business, such as dropping off or picking up a prisoner or official paperwork. If they are not in your area, then you would not hear them at all. Other than for set interop TGIDs, talkgroups are not carried on all the sites all the time.

I agree with the above - setting up a Favorites List for each troop is very inefficient scanning. You will miss conversations.

The Department Quick Key method, while requiring a few more button presses to turn on/off, is much more efficient.

And if you were to use Location Control, being sure to update your zip code each time you go from place A to B, the scanner will do all the work of turning the appropriate "things" on and off based on where you are.

Setting up individual favotite lists for each troop is predicated on using location control/GPS.
The location control only allows scanning of what is in range......
