Version 5.x.x has been released for both hams and SWLs. From the SourceForge webpage:

"A shortwave listening logger for shortwave and amateur radio."

The KB6IBB SWL Logger is a free logging program that can be used by both hams and shortwave listeners. Be sure to read the "SWLLogger500-Instructions" PDF document in the "KB6IBB-SWLLogger" directory prior to installation to insure that you place the downloaded (and ZIP exploded) directories in the correct locations. Unfortunately, there is not a Setup executable that does everything for you. Nonetheless, the program is easy to install as long as you can copy two directories and place them in the correct locations. The instructions are quite clear about that. Finally, the main executable is found in the "SWLog5" subdirectory by the filename of "SWLog5.exe" which you can create a desktop icon for is so desired. Send me a Private Message (PM) if you have trouble with the install. Hopefully KB6IBB will write a single setup executable that will do all of this automatically.

In the "IonoProbe" directory is a solar weather program by Afreet Software (VE3NEA) that can also be installed which is very useful to have since solar weather affects propagation. This program does have a single setup executable. The IonoProbe program does not appear to be available directly from the Afreet Software website. Further, the IonoProbe program can be run standalone if all you need is the solar weather program.

I hope you find one or both of these programs helpful.

EDIT: I just noticed that VE3NEA has discontinued the IonoProbe application as shown here. That is why it is not on the main menu as a downloadable file.

Two items for the thread today:

1. Here is the project link with all the information about the logging software:

If you have not tried this out yet, you really should. A lot of thought obviously went into the GUI (Graphical User Interface). I encourage you to take the logging software for a test drive.

2. Other than me, is anyone else using this software for either ham or SWL logging? If you are, I would be interested in any comments that you may have about the free software.
