Blaze near Plaza now a four-alarm response
February 19

The fire west of the Country Club Plaza has been upgraded to a four-alarm fire as crews search for a possible continuing gas leak.

Kansas City Fire Battalion Chief James Garrett said it appears there was a gas explosion at JJ’s restaurant, 910 W. 48th St. The explosion occurred just before 6 p.m.

A Star reporter a block north of the scene saw a man with a blood-covered face being wheeled away on a gurney. There are other gurneys outside an apartment to the north and across Belleview Avenue from JJs, but that building did not appear to be damaged.

Crews were spreading tarps on the street in possible anticipation of casualties.

Research Hospital reports that emergency workers are performing triage on site.

I know KCK and JoCo agencies sent mutual aid units, perhaps we could listen to the JoCo fire feed and hear something. Im too far from KCMO to monitor on a scanner so I rely on the feed too. Ill be happy when its finally fixed!
