Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.1; en-us; HTC One X Build/JRO03C) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

KCPD was using Special Ops 3 for the motorcade.

MO Highway Patrol troop A was using MOSWIN and dispatch would broadcast the motircades location at each major intersection along the highway. Example - Attention troop A Officers, the motorcade is southbound on I-29 crossing 291.

Airport Police were on Airport PD Tac 1.

I didn't try to listen for any federal traffic.

Matt

There was also a lot of interagency coordination on the RAMBIS channels.

Programming MARRS in Scanner

Hi all. First off let me say I am from the StL area and I am trying to follow all of the postings for the new P25 MARRS system in the KC area.

In the StL area we can also monitor the Illinois StarCom21 statewide system. Within that statewide system there are a few "independent" (if you will) sub systems that are called simulcast. If you want to hear those systems exclusively you have to program their control channels and TG's separately if you want to monitor them in a more efficient manor.

When looking at the "sites" for the MARRS System I count four but there are more than four systems that are using MARRS. They are ....

Kansas City
Jackson County
Platte County
Clay County
Johnson County, KS
East Jackson County. (not sure if that is separate or not)

Do I program all four sites (301, 401,402,403) as one system in my 396xt with multiple sites?
Or do I just program (example) site 401 only if I only want to monitor KC City TG's?

I do travel to the area from time to time and already have the old trunked systems for KC, Johnson County KS, KC KS and Independence programmed. I am wanting to update my stuff.

I hope I was just a little bit clear on my questions and thanks for any help in advance.

You would need to program them separately.

If you want to monitor KCMO, Clay County and the unencrypted Jackson County stuff, you would only program Site 401. Blue Springs and CJC Fire would be Site 402 and Platte County Sheriff/Fire is site 403. Johnson County, KS agencies use Site 301.

Thank you so much. With a bit of system name tweaking it looks like all I have to do is start from scratch. No problem. It will be fun and give me something to do today. Thanks again.

I hear Jackson County has switched over and they are encrypted. What is in the clear, and what is not?

Every now and then a few of them are in the clear on one of the Ops Ch's but other then that not much, except Park rangers, Public Works and Court house.

I still wonder what's going to happen when they want interoperability and can't communicate due to their encryption, but we'll see what happens. One day they may change, but for now we can't do anything about it. Maybe the other agencies will encrypt so they are all on the same page...

During the motorcycle enforcement last week, KCPD, Independence, and Jackson County were using the RAMBIS "RAM TAC" channels to communicate back and forth, so it appears that's how the interoperability situation is being handled at this point. As far as the encryption goes, I personally think it would've been much better if IPD and Jackson County SO followed KCPD's lead and just encrypt on an "as needed" basis. Locking everything down creates a nightmare when agency A has no damn clue what agency B is doing at any given time. What's done is done, though.

Thanks for claryifying that, but yeah I agree with you. On a needed basis. If I'm thinking correctly Johnson County KS officers have Uniden 996T scanners in their cars to hear other agency's traffic, this will stop. We can't do anything about it, but that's part of it I guess. Time will tell what happens when they don't have enough time to switch to a rambis channel...

Looks like Independence control ch is no longer on the air and all of the traffic has been moved to Jackson Co MARRS.

Also the Independence dispatch console's now fall in line with the Radio Id's for the rest of the system.

Just a FYI for everyone.....not that we can hear much from Independence:roll:

are the talk groups the same?...are they on KCMO MARRS or the east Jackson county Blue springs MARRS? Thanks Mike

They're using the same tower site as Blue Springs. Dispatch console Radio IDs appear to be 40006X numbers, while the field units remain the same as they were on the 700MHz system. Oh, and yes, the talkgroups are the same for IPD and IFD.

Guess they're still encrypted as well... I wonder why they wanted to move off of the 700mhz stuff??

That has been the plan for some time...To transition to system Id 2B0 and become part of MARRS, now Independence and Jackson Co is one big system.

Jackson County Sheriff's Office filed an application for 700 MHz frequencies back in September: Federal Communications Commission (this link is probably inaccessible due to the govt shutdown). Not sure what they intend to use those for. The frequencies applied for are:
771.38125
771.68125
771.93125
772.20625
772.68125
772.93125
773.40625
773.90625

Perhaps they plan on adding an additional site to the 2B0 system?

That's what I heard, but thought they tied into MOSWIN with the 1CE?? Guess they'll figure that out using all the things they can use to join systems together.

That's interesting, but maybe they are. It's just crazy that they didn't have the 700 system for too long....

City of Liberty getting closer

I see tonight Liberty PD vehicles are about 75% or more complete with new 800mhz antennas. Any word on how close they are to being online? Originally heard they would be online in November so it sounds like they are progressing to meet that target date.
