KC-MO Police Switched- Fire & EMS To Switch Later

As far as I can tell- all the police zones have switched over to the new radios (1455C-110911).

My understanding is that Fire and EMS will be the last to switch over- one source told me the other day that "it would be the first of (2012)" when FD & EMS switches.

Also- does anybody know how KC-MO will handle all the traffic on just 4 frequencies- or are there to be more added later?

Been monitoring the new frequencies/talk groups for a few months now and it has been pretty boring but on the way home my usual channels were dead turned on the channel for the p25...wow
Have reprogrammed everything sounds MUCH better, I am wondering if there is a way to mute it when they encrypt, the radios have to tell each other that it is an encrypted transmission would be nice if we didn't have to listen to the garbled noise, need to go look at other cities and see if they have the same problem and if they were able to fix it. BTW i have a PSR600, PSR500 and my old faithful pro-95

I know that they do have more frequencies, Harry just added the CC's because that's all you need to program to listen. The complete list of frequencies is on Mokanscan.net. Seems most dispatch will be in the clear, unless an officer has his radio on for encryption, but based on the doc Talkpair found it can be like that... I believe all TAC and other misc. TG's will be encrypted for officer safety. I'll try to listen more later. Hope everyone is enjoying the new P25 system as much as I am :)

System / Zone Patches

Anyone know how are they doing System / Talk Group Patches? Is there a Patch Talk Group like the old system?

It looks like the patch stuff is transparent with their new system. I ran Pro96com earlier, and the only active PD patches are Metro and South. Also, someone on Metro (one of the officers) keeps using encryption when they reply to dispatch. Not sure if that is something intentional, or they just forgot to adjust a setting on their radio. It's a bit annoying, though...

I heard something funny on the KC-MO P25 system yesterday evening...

Seems some undercover cops were tailing a person- then the cops stopped that person.

Heard one cop tell another "the (person) knew we (the cops) were behind him because he (the person) could hear our (the cop's) radio transmissions on his cell phone."

That was rich!

I guess I should clarify...

The officer's radio transmissions were coming over the cellphone of the person they were following everytime the cops keyed-up their radios- they didn't in any way indicate that the person was listening to some app.

The person's cellphone was directly picking up the PD broadcasts!.

The radio monitors the control channel when it gets a Talk Group that matches one in the scan list it sends that info to the radio to go to freq xxx.xxxx then when it hears the end of transmission it returns to the control channel when the transmission has ended.

The freq is a hex code sent in the data stream that the radio is monitoring. you only need to scan the control channels to get the best scanning experience as the radio knows what frequencies are in use based on the data stream of the control channels.

So if your scanning multiple systems, program only the control channels so the radio does not have to scan all the extra frequencies since it knows what freqs are in use already.

This is the way the real P25 radios do it, our P25 scanners do it too, the only systems that need all the frequencies are EDACS and LTR and they have to be in proper order.

The odds of that happening are basically zero. The phone doesn't use the same bands.

He was using scanner radio or something,

Best Settings

What are your experiences with the PRO-197 or 106 scanning the new KC system?

Myself and a few coworkers picked up 197s, and we're getting a lot of broken transmissions and such, especially while moving.

What have you found to work best as far as the attenuation settings, supertrack setting, etc., we're not experts. Which mobile antenna would be best?

Thanks!

Surprisingly I haven't from about 50 miles away, but I may when I get closer to KC. I'll have to see next time I come down. I have adjusted my P25 settings for the 996T. Does anyone know if they still have EDACS radios that are P25 compliant, or do they have Motorola radios?! From the news videos of officers, it looks like EDACS, but I can't get a close enough look...

I've seen KCPD officers with Harris P7200 and P7300 portables (both have P25 and EDACS capabilities). Not sure what they're using for mobiles since the switch. KCFD is supposed to be getting all Moto gear.
