I can’t recall where I read it… but someone mentioned a few years ago that the King County “Northwest” talk group was used, only occasionally, for dispatch in the Shoreline/Kenmore area and that most of that traffic is on the very busy “North” TG. That’s where I hear them too.

It seems to be true that those communities are on NW sometimes… at least to a certain extent… I think I’ve heard Shoreline and Kenmore dispatched there… but not often at all.

Lately, at least during the day, I’ve heard units on NW from all over the county including a traffic stop outside Auburn.

Does anyone have a clear definition of exactly how this TG is utilized? Is it a catch-all? That’s essentially what it sounds like to me now.

Thanks all!

I'll add it to my local favorite list and keep an eye out. Glad to report if I hear anything.

I do know that yesterday, they (PSERN) had some sort of patch going - don't know any details, (I was only up on N), but I heard dispatch saying that they were going to stop it. This was right at the same time as a dispatcher change.

I think the KCSO NW was used as the dispatch channel for the Metro Transit deputies.

Bam! Nailed it. That explains most of what I’ve heard lately. Mostly units along the north/Shoreline side of Aurora. But also quite a few other places in King County. My problem is distractions and I tend to miss callsigns.

Many thanks for the response and the great info.

+1 it hasn't been NW for many years. 23344 and 23376 are Transit 2 and Transit 2 Tactical.

I programmed my radio quite a long time ago and, my bad, don’t often confirm talk groups when I program something new. I just “run what I bring”

Thanks for the great info. I’ll have to check the DB here and see if it’s still listed as “NW”… I believe it is.

Now I can listen casually to that TG and lock it out if I’m not in the mood. Also good to know I won’t miss Shorline/Kenmore traffic by staying on North dispatch.

The activity I picked up (on EPSCA Simulcast) since the OP posted this seems to be mostly Metro Transit on the newly opened Sound Transit light rail line / stations.

It's possible some or or all of the PSERSN patching is for the purpose of 30 day bug free test, as required by the FCC, if a bug is found within the 30 day window, it has to be fixed and the test repeated. It's also possible the new radio's are capable of being programed for both systems, new and old, in which the templet(s) need to be tested for bugs (typo's, syntax errors etc.). before deploying. This would save time and money, when the time to cut over, it's mater of throwing the switch and pressing a button or two. Rather then having to simulcast or patch both systems for say six months or more, while the radio shop changes out only a few thousand radios.

There is no "FCC 30 day bug free test", of course the radios are programmed for both systems..

I remember the days when people who actually knew things posted here. Alas, the rabble have driven most of them away with their baseless suppositions and unfounded-in-reality opinions.

Mind was elsewhere when I typed it.....(?)
