In another thread, it was mentioned that KCTY has moved to 104.9 in Norfolk.

Do you have any more details? I'm originally from Norfolk and still keep up on stations on the air in that town. I heard from a reliable source that Norfolk was getting a new FM station. The transmitter was going to be near Pierce and the studios are going to be in the WJAG/KEXL building.

At the time, my source didn't have the call letters for the new station, nor the frequency or station format. Just that the owners of WJAG/KEXL got the bid for the new station.

Is KCTY that new station?

I realize that commercial broadcasting really is off topic for a scanner forum, but it's still interesting to keep up with all the changes.

I will have to check and see I'm not sure right off hand and I've been pretty busy lately.

As far as commercial broadcasting goes, this is a scanning forum, and we don't discriminate. If its a radio wave through the air we're gonna talk about it here.

The only valid licenses I show for the area are:

KXNE-FM, 89.3
KPNO, 90.9
KNEN, 94.7
*NEW, 98.9
KEXL, 106.7

Construction Permits for Translator Stations in Norfolk:

K242BE, Community Broadcasting, Inc., 96.3MHz
K290AT, Radio Assist Ministry, Inc., 105.9MHz

Also found this permit for 98.9, with no callsign yet assigned:

Thanks for the update, JJK!

Isn't it weird how radio station callsigns move around?

104.9 in Wayne is owned by NRG Media, which used to be Waitt Radio.

KCTY used to be the callsign for 106.9 in Omaha ("106.9 - The City", which is also owned by NRG Media.

One other piece of info - the link which W0JJK posted contains a reference to "Bob FM".

Here's a link to the "Bob FM" format that is originated by Waitt Radio Networks, which is located north of Dodge on 90th, on the west side fo the street.

Strangely-enough, Waitt Radio Networks is the only entity that is still wholely-owned by Norm Waitt Jr. The rest of the Waitt Radio "empire" is now owned by NRG Media.

Yeah - WRN's "Bob-FM" is their answer to ABC's "Jack FM" and a number of other similar formats.

It's "corporate radio's" attempt to create a format that is supposed to have a better fit in markets that are already saturated with the mainstream "Fantastic 7" music formats!

Heck, buy a bunch of CD's that represent your favorite music, rip 'em into your favorite portable music device, buy an FM modulator, and go on the air with "Fire-FM - we play music that will fire you up!"
